10 Shows To Binge Watch During Holiday Break

So, the holiday season is coming up, and you know what that means, time off to spend with family and friends. The holiday season also means more free time to relax and watch Netflix by yourself in your room while being a cozy hermit. The best part about binge-watching shows during the holiday season is that you don't have to feel guilty about spending all your time watching 5 seasons of a show because you don't have any homework or work looming over you. The best part is that if you feel the need to hang out with other people, just convince them to watch the show that you're watching and it's perfect, no need to leave the house and your show for the rest of the day.

So, now I will be telling you about the ten TV shows currently on the air that you should start watching during your vacation time:

1. "How to Get Away with Murder"

This ABC show is one of the best shows I've watched in a very long time. This show follows five law students, who work for Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) and all the deadly antics that they get into. It is produced by Shonda Rimes, who also produced Scandal and Grey's Anatomy, but the writing is incredible. Every episode a new bomb is dropped, and you are left hanging with your mouth open, scrambling for the next episode. The cast is amazing and highly diverse. All the actors are great and also very attractive. The characters are all interesting, and while the tone of the show is very serious, I mean the word "murder" is in the title, so you should not expect a comedy, it does have a lot of humorous moments. Plus, the entire first season is on Netflix and is only 15 episodes, so you can just power through this show in like a day or two. Also, the show is on its winter hiatus right now, so you can catch up on the first 9 episodes of the current season as well.

2. "The 100"

This show from the CW is not as well known or highly acclaimed as HTGAWM, but it is still an addictive, guilty pleasure show that only took me 5 days to watch. The 100 takes place in space, where the Earth has become inhabitable, so the world's population went into this spaceship called an Ark, where the air is running low, so they send 100 delinquents, down to Earth to see if it is safe to live there again. It's a survival story that is very similar to Lost, for fans of that show, and even features a cast member from Lost, Henry Ian Cusak. It's a show targeted at young adults, so the drama is more teenager-y, but the action and battle scenes are so intense, that you completely forget about the cringe-y scene the show sometimes throws in there. The first two season are on Netflix, and the third season will be airing Winter 2016.

3. "Supernatural"

If this is the show you pick to start during your break, it will be the only show you watch at all. Currently, in its 11th season, this show will take over your life. Supernatural centers around two brothers, Dean and Sam Winchester, starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, who fight anything supernatural, like ghosts, demons, etc. This show is obviously doing something right if it's been around for 11 seasons. While it has its many dramatic and tear-jerking moments, there are many episodes of the show that parody itself or are purely funny episodes to lighten up the regular dark tone of this show. It's first 10 seasons are on Netflix, and by the time, you're on holiday break, it's 11th season will be on hiatus, so you can catch up on all the supernatural hunting goodness by then.

4. Arrow

And the hits from CW just keep coming! This show is a lot younger than Supernatural, currently in its 4th season. This show follows Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, a billionaire who gets saved from an island he was trapped on for five years and takes on the identity of the Arrow to help save his city from the people trying to destroy it. This show is so badass and gets even better with the seasons. The finales are always heart pounding, especially for the first 2 seasons, so I would definitely recommend watching this. The first 3 seasons are on Netflix, so get on it.

5. The Flash

Another show from the DC comics on the CW network, I know!! However, this one is different from Arrow because this show has more a magical and superheroesque feel than Arrow does. The Flash is about a boy named Barry Allen, played by Grant Gustin, who gets struck by lightening while some science mumbo-jumbo is going on and gains the power of super speed, which he uses to fight crime in Central City, a short train ride away from Starling City, where Arrow takes place. Since they both take place in the same universe, this show often crosses over with Arrow in big episodes, but if you're planning to binge watch both shows, then I suggest watching the first 2 seasons of the Arrow, then watching Arrow's season 3 and season 4 alternating between each episode with The Flash's season 1 and season 2 because then the crossovers will make sense. The Flash's season 1 is on Netflix.

6. Game of Thrones

If you're interested in fantasy worlds with magical elements and a ton of adult content (this is an HBO show), then you might be interested. Also, if you, for some reason, do not know what Game of Thrones is about and have never watched an episode, then it is a show about the struggle for the throne of Westeros, which has 7 kingdoms. There are a lot of characters and the first episode will probably be super-confusing, but if you stick with it, until season 1 episode 9, you will understand all the hype surrounding this show. This show keeps you on your toes while you're watching your favorite characters die and all the plot twists that have you literally screaming at the tv screen. While this show's 5 seasons are not on Netflix, if you have an HBO subscription, you can access all the episodes online, or you could ask for a DVD boxset as a gift for the holidays!

7. The Mindy Project

The Mindy Project is a hilarious show that originally started on Fox and then got canceled before Hulu picked it up for its fourth season. It stars Mindy Kaling as Mindy Lahiri, an OB-GYN in New York City and her struggle to find love. Each episode lasts only 30 minutes, but it's a great show to watch when you're trying to recover from a brutal episode of Game of Thrones or when you just need a light, comedic show after How to Get Away with Murder. Also, with a ton of Thanksgiving and Christmas themed episodes throughout the show, it will keep you in the holiday spirit. This show also does not stream on Netflix since it has an exclusive deal with Hulu, but you can watch all of its episodes there.

8. Sherlock

This BBC show is a modern take on the books, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes with Martin Freeman as John Watson. This show is more like a series of short films. Each episode is an hour and a half and you have to treat it more like a movie than a casual watching of episode because so much happens in such little time. While that may sound intimidating, it isn't. There are only 3 seasons right now with 3 episodes each, so it will be very quick to get through. Every episode is exciting and mysterious, and every finale is a cliffhanger. The first 3 seasons are on Netflix and the BBC will be airing a special Christmas episode of Sherlock on Christmas this year, so you could get caught up by that time!

9. The X-Files

Okay, I hear you, calling me out for cheating because this show has been over for 13 years, but if you didn't know, the X-Files is continuing with a miniseries coming out in 2016, which means technically it is a show that will still be on the air. So, if you haven't watched The X-Files or have been meaning to rewatch the series, then here is your chance. The X-Files follows two FBI agents, Fox Mulder, and Dana Scully, as they investigate the unexplainable cases involving paranormal phenomena. The entire show, all 9 seasons, are on Netflix, and the revival miniseries will be premiering on January 24, 2016.

10. Spongebob Squarepants

Last, but certainly not least, how could I forget to mention one of the longest running cartoons of all time, Spongebob? A childhood friend and still a household name in 2015. While you don't have to catch up on this series to watch the most recent episodes, you really should. I'm kidding with this one, guys, but we all know that when we go home for the holidays, we will probably be flipping through the channels and nothing will be on, but old reliable, Spongebob, will probably be on Nickelodeon, and hopefully, it's an old episode and not one of these new episodes. Also, if you didn't know the Spongebob Squarepants Movie is on Netflix, so even if you don't want to watch the show, that great movie is streaming, so you should make time to watch it and sing along to the Goofy Goober Song because we all know that we know the words to it.

Some honorable mentions for this article of shows that are not currently on the air but are required tv viewing are Parks and Recreation, The Office, That '70s Show, and Friends, because all four of those shows are funny as hell and will make you laugh so hard you will cry.

I hope you all enjoy your holiday breaks and remember to always thank God for your family, friends, and most of all:

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
