A TV Guide from a SciFi-Fanasty-Mystery-Period Drama-Loving Girl

As you can probably tell by the title of this article...I like a lot of different tv genres. Although they all tend to have some kind suspense, and humor. But not the kind of humor that has humor just to be funny, and without a real plot. Thought out plots and story arcs play a key part in what I watch. Below are pretty much all the tv shows I consider myself actively watching, often rewatch, or that are just my favorites.

Mystery/Detective shows.

This is probably one of the main genre’s I watch. The first 4 shows all are about a consultant for a police department or government agency who comes from a less than ideal background, but who is a genius and uses this to help solve crimes. I love mysteries but also the overall plots and humor. I’m not going to give a mini summery of every one, but I’d defiantly suggest checking them out.

Psych
When I have nothing else to watch, I’ll often re-watch episodes of Psych haha.

Chuck
Not one I would watch again soon, but it was certainly good enough to watch all the way through. At first it took a bit for me to like it, but I would defiantly suggest it. Watch it all and then we can cry together.

Limitless
Apparently there is a movie too, but I saw the tv show on Netflix. I binged watch this before school. Similar story lines to the above two shows. Some interesting parallels and moral thoughts relating to drugs also played through out. Defiantly interesting, although as I said it has similar aspect to other shows in the detective/mystery genre (aka Chuck). But if you are like me and don't mind that, then you will probably enjoy this.

White Collar
Defiantly one of my favorites. I love the humor and the plot, and it has a great overall story arc stretched throughout the seasons. It even ended without me crying in despair (cough cough Chuck). I introduced this show to my friends, and they liked it too. Although the main character is somewhat of a playboy and thus there are some questionable scenes.

Then there are the next two, both BBC. Yay British tv shows.

Broadchurch is tv season set around the murder of a young boy in a small town. It is unique cause it's just one mystery, although there are sub plots. but it stretches through one season. It isn't terribly drawn out however, and is done nicely while keeping your interest. In classic BBC style, I am sure you will recognize several actors if you have seen other BBC shows.

And then there is Sherlock ... a modern adaptation of a classic. The series are very short, but the episodes are longer than average. Mystery, humor, interesting plots. Everything I love.

Lastly, there is Veronica Mars. I didn’t watch this when it aired, but I totally binged watched it on Amazon Prime. This would more likely appeal to a slightly younger audience than the others, but it’s kind of like Nancy Drew, and has that mystery aspect I enjoy. There are some mature scenes, but overall I really enjoyed it.

The next category is Sci-Fi/Fantasy.

I don’t really like futuristic sci-fi, but I really enjoy it set in a more modern time period, which makes it more realistic or relatable.

Of course there is a classic, Doctor Who.
While I have not seen all of the Classic Doctor Who, I do enjoy the ones I’ve seen, particularly the 7th Doctor and Ace. I only watch it on Amazon or Netflix though, so I have not seen the latest season, but I will say that the 10th Doctor is my favorite. I use to consider myself a hardcore Whovian, but I'm not as obsessed now. *Ignore the two 3-foot Daleks I just bought on sale...or the many DW socks.*

Stranger Things
The new Netflix show everyone is talking about. Full of mystery and suspense, and set in the 1980s, this one is great fun too. I am really excited to see what season two brings, especially concerning El and many unanswered questions.

Once Upon a Time
This is really the only fantasy show I watch, but it’s uniqueness was enough to draw me in and I do like romance shows. I enjoy the fairy tale aspect, as well as the two different worlds that take place in the show.

The last genre I watch is Period Dramas.

I’ve watched all of Downton Abbey and really enjoyed it. Of Course It is BBC and I like a lot of their stuff, but I also just really enjoy watching period dramas. I like the romance and also the historical aspects.

Be careful which ones you watch though, cause sometimes the acting is just dreadful and the plots just a bit too unrealistic. And lastly...

BBC Pride and Prejudice
Ok, this is more of a mini-series...but I’ve seen it many times and still love it. I like to put it on when I am doing something, such as sorting through stuff or clothes, to make my task less boring. It’s basically just a script of the book, so if you are a lover of the book, you may enjoy this too.

Well, that’s it. Being a senior in college and super busy, I’m trying to not watch tv on a regular basis, but please watch some of my favorite shows for me!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
