Mysteries Surrounding 'The Magic School Bus' Explored

I have some questions after not watching the show for 10 years.

It’s summer, so naturally I am doing a lot of really productive things, the most important being rewatching "The Magic School Bus" on Netflix. This show was a big part of my childhood and I’m still convinced that it has actually made me a better student. However, watching now as a college student, I’ve had some interesting reflections on this key part of my process of growing up and I decided to record them here as I watched.

1. If teaching doesn't work out, Ms. Frizzle should pursue a fashion design career

2. I'm going to remember this theme song until I die

"Cruisin' on down mainstream, you're relaxed and feeling good. Next thing that you know you're seeing...octopus in the neighborhood?"

3. The principal of this school is not supervising anything

Ms. Frizzle definitely has tenure.

4. There's no way that these parents know what their kids are actually doing at school

I'm sure they just thought that all of their children had really creative imaginations.

5. The students put a lot of faith in Ms.Frizzle

I loved my teachers all through elementary school, but that still doesn't mean I would've trusted them to take me into space.

6. It is a miracle that these children made it out of the class alive

I'm sorry, but when Arnold took off his helmet on Pluto, he was done. I understand this is a kid's show and all, but seriously.

7. All of Ms.Frizzle's magical scientific equipment could be put to better use than class field trips

I think NASA would definitely be interested in a bus that could travel throughout our entire solar system without difficulty. I also think that cancer researchers would be pretty interested in it too, but just keep using your technology to educate children.

8. The iguana/lizard/chameleon is very well behaved

9. All of these kids better get into top universities

Some of these students have more scientific knowledge in elementary school than I do in college. Also, just think about how incredible their application essays will be! So many insane experiences to draw from!!

10. I am pleasantly surprised by the diversity on the show

You go "Magic School Bus!" Good for you!

11. I had forgotten about the fact check at the end of the show

At the end of every show they would have a caller asking questions about the show, so that they could explain what was scientifically true about the show and what wasn't. This helps to reconcile the fact that the bus does so many "magical things."

12. This lizard with a wig on really counts as a substitute teacher?

I have a lot of questions about this one. First, did Ms. Frizzle just have a wig of her hair for a lizard-sized head sitting around? Second, where is the supervision in this school? And finally, Arnold still listens to the lizard as if it was a real substitute teacher, why?

13. This bus seriously needs to be sanitized

Within three episodes the bus had been on several planets, inside one student's digestive system, and in another student's bloodstream...ew.

14. I'm glad Ms. Frizzle is so concerned about their seatbelts when she's putting them in life threatening situations

15. I seriously relate to Carlos

No matter the situation he always had terrible jokes to tell. He was easily my favorite part of the show with all of his puns.

16. I wish I could've had Ms. Frizzle as a teacher

She may have constantly put her students in danger, but it was only for the sake of learning.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
