The Truth About Summer School

The summer time is probably the most favored time every year. The sun is out, the birds and chirping and it is just excellent for outdoor activity. Most people look forward to the summer, however, the summer isn't just all fun and games for everyone. Some people still have to work and fulfill their responsibilities no matter the time of year. For others, mainly younger people they have to attend summer school/classes.

Summer School is the one thing every child or young adult dreads attending. It can be annoying and inconvenient because students just finished an entire school year or semester of classes, only to immediately start back up again. Some people deem summer school for the students who perform unsatisfactory throughout the year. This is not necessarily the case. Parents can enroll their children in summer school to keep them sharp, busy and out of trouble. Summer school and summer classes can also allow for the opportunity to get ahead.

Summer School has the ability to build character into young individuals. Keeping them away from idle time and giving them constructive tasks to do with their time is very important and serves as the main goal. I personally attending summer school once in my life and I had a blast. I was entering the 7th grade and initially I was distraught at the idea of going. However, I was happy that I went because I made many friends, learned new things and I was ready for the school year to begin that year.

Summer Classes, although different from summer school in general can still serve the same purpose. As a young adult in a digital world, idle time is still very much a thing and social media can distract young adults like myself and serve as a waste of time; especially in the summer. Summer classes help you get ahead and move throughout college faster. If you make a mistake in the fall or spring semester, summer classes can also serve as catch up therefore I believe it to be very useful.

Today, it is imperative to get more of the youth to summer schools and summer camps. The youth is our future and if we allow them to waste down and do whatever they want with it at a young age, it can be very detrimental. I believe the stigma that "summer school is for idiots" needs to be thrown out. We should be pushing a new agenda that summer school is for the elite and the visionaries.

In conclusion, summer school/classes is very useful and important. Going forward we need to push for the youth to attend more and more. We should also offer incentives. This can be fun for them and allow us to praise and reward them for their accomplishments. I promise this is more worth it than laying around watching cartoon network all day in the summer. Stay in school!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
