It might feel like you are the only person from your hometown that actually wishes you could go back in time and relive those high school days, but you aren’t alone. I know how it feels to be the only one out of all of your new college friends to want to turn back the clock.
Obviously, college has its perks. There is no denying that.
1. Choosing your own classes/ creating your own schedule
2. Being around your friends 24/7
3. Sleeping in (if you were smart enough to not choose an 8 am class)
4. More independence
5. Parties… need I say more?
It’s not that I think that college is bad or that I prefer high school over college. But leaving all of the people and memories that have been such an important part of your life behind, makes the transition that much more difficult. Truthfully, I know that if I ever had to actually go to high school again, I wouldn’t be all that thrilled.
However, it is okay to miss it. It is okay to miss the people and the memories but do not for a second forget to appreciate all of the new change that has been brought to you.
Yes, college can be difficult to adapt to. You might not be totally comfortable with the people you chose to room with or the major that you were so once so sure about. It happens. Things change and it is 100% okay to miss the things that once made you happy.
I know when I reflect on my high school experience I usually remember all of the positive things. Doing this makes it even harder for me to grasp the fact that in every part of my life, there will be things that I miss but I need to move on and not dwell on what once was.
I will refrain from listing all of the things that I miss because I know everyone has had their own experiences in high school. However, before you know it, your experience from college will be something you miss too.
It is okay to miss high school. It is okay that you might think that you are the only one in college that misses high school.
But you have to realize that high school isn’t actually the thing you miss the most. You miss the little things or even the big things that made high school a memory for you and not just a place where you were forced to sit in a classroom for 6 hours every day. Memories are made of all of the things that make you think that high school is something you miss.
You may have entered a new part of your life, but do not take this opportunity for granted. Experience all that college has to offer while keeping the memories of high school in mind. Remember, one day you will miss college just as much as you missed high school.
