As the results came in last week and we received the news that Donald Trump was America's next president, a flood of emotion was cast over the nation. For some, the phrase "President-Elect Trump" is music to their ears; but for others, it is a very scary feeling. Whether the news of the presidency was good or bad in your opinion, I challenge you to pray about it.
Pray that President Elect Donald Trump would be the best president that he can be. Pray that God would guide him and allow him to lead our country. Put your political beliefs aside, and simply pray for our nation's leader.
Pray for those who voted for Trump. Pray for them to continue to support their future commander in chief.
Pray for those who supported Hillary. Pray that their fearful hearts would turn into open ones and that they would see the good that can come out of his presidency.
Stop focusing on the 2020 election, this is 2016. I cannot count how many people I've overheard saying "do you think we can get Michelle Obama to run in 2020" or "what Democrat can run in 2020 to save us?" Stop with the hateful comments about wishing for his assassination, do you realize how cruel that is to say? Stop with the "I can't wait for Trump to get impeached." Stop threatening to move to Canada, feel free to go. Seriously. Just stop, respect the man that has been placed into office; and for God's sake, give him a chance to be our president.
I'm not asking you to agree with everything he stands for. We as a nation voted for him; so respect him. Realize that the next four years will be a group effort to make America great again. President Elect Donald Trump is one man. I understand that he will have a huge influence on the things that take place in our country over the next four years; however, he will not call all the shots. I also understand that come January, all of Washington will seem to be controlled by the Republican party. I'm not really sure how that happened, but hey, it's what we've got.
We need to remember who we are as a nation.
We are NOT a nation simply divided by two political parties.
We are NOT a nation full of crybabies because the election didn't go our way.
We are NOT a nation that acts in a petty manner and walks away from friendships based on someone's political beliefs.
We are NOT a nation that childishly refuses to support a man who has been placed in office. Come on America, we are better than that.
On the other hand, we are ONE nation, under God. Whether or not you agree with Trump's plan, I surely agree with God's.
We are a nation full of many different cultures, colors, opinions, and ideas; but we all have at least one thing in common. We are ALL American.
We, God willing, WILL become a nation that cannot be divided.
So put aside your opinions of Trump. Put aside your opinions of the election, it's over. Now it is time to stand together. Not as Democrats and Republicans, not as blacks and whites, but as Americans. After all, we are one nation. I think it's time we start to act like it.
