The upcoming 2016 election is full of tension, biases, and fear for the future state of our country. If Donald trump is elected as our president, there will be much uncertainty for the future of our great nation as he attempts to "make America great again". If you choose to vote for him, consider what values you're actually voting for.
1. White Supremacy
He has on multiple occasions made speeches making racist commentary, and proving over and over that he is insensitive to other races, and basically anyone who is from a different background as himself. While he may claim he "love[s] Hispanics!", his campaigning to prohibit immigrants from Mexico who are trying to seek freedom in America completely goes against this. He may not be a racist, but his racist comments throughout his campaign show me that he believes white people should take priority over all other races.
2. Male Supremacy
The 21st century is a wonderful time to be alive. Women have all the same legal rights as men, but we are still trying to close the gender gap. Having Trump as our president may as well set us back to the 1920s when we did not have a vote. Not just in his campaign, but over the years, he has continually made disgustingly sexist comments about women, and shows his lack of respect for any female counterparts. How could we allow someone like this to run our country, when a little over half of our population is women?
3. It's OK To Mock People With Disabilities (or for being different in any way)
Back in November, after being interviewed by Washington Post reporter Serge F. Kovaleski, he made fun of his disability. Kovaleski has cerebral palsy, a condition that impairs muscle function. Disabilities are never a laughing matter, and Trump showed us all that he's a bully. If this man is our president, he will show an example to the American people that we can make fun of someone because of how they look, how they act, what they wear, and pretty much anything else you don't like about them. We cannot have a president that won't accept people for being different, that's not what America is about. People came to America to escape religious persecution, but America is a place to escape all persecution.
4. You Can Take Credit For Other People's Work
This week at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, Trump's wife, Melania Trump, delivered a speech that was shockingly similar to Michelle Obama's speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. If you watch this video, you will see how Melania ripped off Michelle. We can't have America's youth thinking it's ok to take credit for other people's hard work and try to pass it off as their own. Plagiarism is never ok; it teaches laziness, and that we don't need to think for ourselves, and we can copy other people's hard work when we don't feel like doing the work.
Before voting for Trump on November 8, I urge you to think about all of the things that Trump really stands for, and say to yourself, "is this really who I want to represent my country?" I know I don't. He's not making America great again, he's making America white, male, and insensitive. #Hillary2016 #ImWithHer
