Trump Is Not The Trump Card

Trump Is Not The Trump Card

This past Tuesday, Aug. 25, Donald Trump held a press conference in Iowa. Everything had been going fine for the 2016 presidential candidate until journalist, Jorge Ramos, stood up to ask a question. As soon as Ramos attempted to ask a question about his plans for immigration, Trump silenced him, saying, "Go back to Univision," and then proceeded to kick him out of the conference. Later in the press conference, Ramos was allowed back in by the Trump administration. Ramos asked his question, which led to an intense debate between the two over Trump's future actions regarding immigration. After the conference, Ramos tweeted:

Pointing out the unnecessary force Trump used to remove him, Ramos also tweeted, "No human being is illegal." While Ramos did get to ask his questions, a lot of people were offended over the ejection of the Mexican-American journalist.

On Wednesday night, Ramos talked to Megyn Kelly on FoxNews, whom Trump had previously called a bimbo. Ramos said that he "followed the rules," but Trump was the one "who didn't like the question." And yet again, Ramos was right. During their five-minute intense debate over immigration, Trump never gave a clear answer to Ramos. When asked about how he was going to deport undocumented immigrants but allow "the good ones" to come back, which was written in his plans as president, Trump had no explicit response. Trump's plans seemed to just be out of aggression and had yet to produce substantial facts and information on how he was going to carry it out.

This unpleasant situation marked a definite loss for Trump. With his sexist remarks during the GOP debate toward Megyn Kelly (and all women) to his blatant racism toward Latinos, Trump has successfully dug himself into a deep hole that only makes him seem more and more like a joke.

Sam White, a student activist that attends Villanova University, tweeted yesterday, "Trump is a voice & a platform for people's racism, misogyny, & bigotry." And he's completely right. With every move Trump makes toward building his "1,900 mile wall" across the Mexican/American border, he's also moving toward a campaign that creates a huge controversy over the definition social injustice. It creates a situation for everyone around the world to misunderstand what is politically correct and what is not. Or what is morally right and what is not.

This shouldn't be the issue at all. Presidential candidates should be fighting against racism, misogyny and bigotry, and even so, Trump seems to be standing for everything he shouldn't be. And the more we see of him, Trump appears to exhibit that he definitely isn't the trump card needed to win this presidential race.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
