How Can I Truly Be Happy?

Will I ever smile at myself in the mirror?

As we get ready we to welcome the new year and say goodbye to old one we hope that the new one will be filled with new opportunities. That the troubles we had faced in 2016 and the years before that will not travel on to this new year.

A new year, a new chapter it is another chance to continue what we believe in, it is another chance to do something right. A new year brings many opportunities it brings life and it even brings closure. Yet, more importantly, a new year gives us another opportunity to rescue ourselves. What I mean is that some of us may truly be unhappy with how our lives are going at the moment. We may be unhappy with our day to day activities.

When we look in the mirror and we smile it truly does not shine in our eyes. Our smile is not bright and so it fades away quickly. We forget ourselves, and let negative thoughts tamper with our mind set. Which sometimes affect our everyday thought, taking over every second we have to ourselves. We look at others and see beauty yet when we look at ourselves the word beauty is nonexistent.

With that nonexistent word we hide ourselves, instead of standing proud and looking into the mirror and saying "Wow that's me..I look amazing!" We cant stand to look in the mirror, the thought of it makes us angry.

We are angry because we think we are not beautiful.

We are angry because we think we are nothing.

We are angry because, why is it that we can see beauty in others but not ourselves.

We are angry because we see nothing worth looking at.

We are angry because we want to see someone worth looking at.

We are even more angry when our view of ourselves begins to chnage only to revert back.

Like every other year we make promises sometimes they are empty promisies. With this new year we have to make ourselves more than a promise. Our happiness should be our main focus.

Remember a time when you truly couldn't believe who was staring back at you in the mirror. Those rare moments when you were truly happy looking into the mirror and your happiness had prevailed. Hold on to that and let that be your beacon of light, let it be a reminder that you truly are beautiful.

When thinking of this new year it is up to us what truly happens with this opportunity. My advice to you is, if you truly want something go for it. Hold on to your motivation and fight to for it. If you want to smile then do everything you can to get that smile back. Find the beauty in yourself. Because you have hidden it, you have become blinded and it is time to open your eyes .

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
