We have all been there before: staring at ourselves in the mirror in utter disgust of what we see staring back. Whether it is our weight, acne or body type, we all suffer from insecurities about our bodies. It is crazy to think of the amount of time and money some spend altering their bodies because they succumb to societal pressure. Throughout your life, people will make you feel like you aren't worth much and what you do isn't good enough. .
I am here to let you know that YOU ARE SPECIAL! We all offer amazing gifts to each other, but when we begin to feel discouraged, we tend to become uninspired and dull. Life is about being a shining star for everyone's eyes to gaze upon! We each bring forth different talents and skills. It would be insane to say we don't all have something unique and incredible about us.
I learned from a young age that in order for others to value me I had to value myself first. All it takes is one positive thought about yourself a day and you begin to realize just how awesome you really are! So, next time you feel like your worth isn't much, or you aren't good enough or beautiful enough to enjoy certain things, give yourself a compliment, go out and enjoy your life to the fullest. At the end of the day, you will be the one staring at yourself in the mirror and you'll see yourself with love and respect instead of hatred. As a kid, I knew my insecurities held me back from doing things I wanted to do. I was embarrassed of being the chubby, gay kid. Before, I saw it as a horrible curse I had been placed under, but as I grew up I realized my self worth. I began to see that I was more than what others thought or said about me. I was, and still am, a star in my own ways.
I prove to myself constantly how far I have come in terms of confidence and self esteem. I am glad I made a decision many years ago to force myself to be comfortable in my own skin. In the years that followed, it allowed me to have the most amazing and adventure filled life. Struggling with insecurities can take a toll on relationships but not only those that are intimate because it can affect friendships as well. After being viewed by others in a negative light, it becomes harder and harder to find the motivation to see yourself as anything but what they say you are. No matter where we come from or what we do, we are all extremely lucky to have lived in an era so progressively accepting of others' beliefs and ideals. With the recent legalization of gay marriage, gay people across the country can feel more at ease for being recognized as actual human beings with actual relationships, rather than being harassed and bullied.
Above it all, remember that you gotta start feelin' yourself, guurl.
