It seems like nowadays people are counting down the days until they move back to school rather than until they return home.
Here is a list of the reasons why summer just isn't the same anymore.
1. Summer has now become all work and no play
All of your friends have grown up jobs and responsibilities now. Free time is practically nonexistent in their vocabularies. Growing up sucks, am I right?
2. Your beach body you’ve been “working on” is definitely not ready
Let's be real, you're probably still behind on your spring break bod workout from three years ago.
3. You don't get to make your own rules
You are in charge of every single aspect of your life when you live on your own. Moving back home for the summer means that you have to get used to following your parents' rules again, which can be difficult if you've become accustomed to being independent.
4. Two words: High School
Basically anything related to these two words will make you cringe. All of those irrelevant people from grade school that you forgot about seem to have suddenly reappeared in your life. They almost always happen to bring up embarrassing events from years ago... Not to mention you run into at least two of them every time you go out in public.
5. All of your friends no longer live in walking distance
They say that college friends will last a lifetime, but they never tell you how to deal with the separation anxiety caused by breaks. Everyone is spread out much, much farther than your university's campus. Some even live in different states. It may take hours for you to drive to see them, plus all of your hard earned money ultimately goes towards gas.
6. You feel as if you are slowly becoming dumber
Aside from summer classes, not much scholarly work occurs during summer. This can result in losing all of the knowledge you've retained... Were those dreaded 9 a.m. classes really worth it?
7. You realize how boring your life really is
This is especially true if you don't have a job. Nothing is worse than seeing people post pictures of their extraordinary vacations and lives while you're sitting in bed on hour 12 of binge watching Netflix with a half-eaten tub of ice cream by your side.
Don’t get me wrong, I love spending sunny days boating on a lake or starry nights surrounded by close friends around a bonfire. But the ugly truth is that the older you get, the more boring summer becomes.
