Tribute To My Freshman Year Friends

Hey losers,

Its almost summer, can you believe it? It’s finally getting warm outside after endless months of winter and I know we couldn’t be more excited for classes t be over. We’re all so crammed with work that it doesn’t even seem possible for us to enjoy our weekends let alone our last few weeks together before summer vacation. I thought winter vacation was long and that was one month. I don’t even want to imagine what three months apart will feel like. I mean, don’t get me wrong -- it’ll be great to be home with my family and high school friends especially because I wont' have to worry about school work, but leaving school will definitely be bitter sweet.

Before it’s move out day and we all head home I just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate you all. Coming into college I had no idea that I would be meeting friends that would mean so much to me. I never thought that anyone could compare to the friends I had made in my hometown. I love the friends I have made at home and I know that they will forever be special to me, but so will you guys. I have made so many unforgettable memories with all of you in less than a year and it’s weird to think that I will not see you guys everyday for the next few months. I know we all get bored at school when we are with each other, but can you imagine how bored we are all going to be at home when we don’t have people around 24/7?

I’m going to miss our shenanigans every weekend. I know there will be plenty more throughout the years, but I don’t think a lot will compare to the stupid things we did this year. Waking up on Sunday mornings wont be the same because I wont be going to brunch to talk about what happened the night before. I know none of us will miss the food, but I know we will miss the talks we had at lunch and dinner. We wont have any classes to worry about these next few months, thank God, but we also wont be having study sessions in academic buildings that ultimately turned into us being crazy and distracting each other.

We have shared some crazy memories this year that I will never forget. Knowing that I will have all of you the next three years is going to make coming back to college a little easier. I’m ready for the freedom of Summer, but I can’t say that I’m ready to leave all of you for the next three months. Don’t forget to text and FaceTime me about your lives because you know I’ll be calling to tell you about mine.

See you next semester, homies.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
