I know this will be published after Father’s Day, but being thankful for whoever is your father figure should not have to be on just one day. There are three men whom I love very much and look up to, whether it is from stories or experiencing life with them - my father and my two grandfathers. Both my grandfathers have passed, however, with that being said, I still look up to them.
Dutchie, my father’s father, passed before my second birthday so I only have stories that are told to me about him. From what I know about him, he was quite a goofball, an honest man and hardworking. These three qualities were passed down to my dad. Pap Pap, my mother’s father, passed eight years ago. As Dutchie did, he lived a full life. He never asked for anything from anyone, a loyal and honest man but quiet. He definitely did not pass his quietness down to my mom (HAHA). Both of them had qualities that I admire. They both were volunteers in the community, served their country and both had a personality of gold. I love and miss you both!
Then there is my father, what a man he is. Yes, I look up to him. Yes, we butt heads often, but I would not trade him for the world. I STRONGLY dislike him at times and hate that he is right other times, but I do not know what I would do without him. He is a hardworking, unselfish, compassionate, giving, honest man. He goes out of his way to help others even if he does not know them. Or even to strike up a conversation. This one time we were just in the store looking at, most likely electronics, something and someone comes up to him thinking he works there and asks about something. Instead of saying sorry I don’t work here, he helps them find what they need. Or he just goes up and helps others even if they don’t ask. These qualities are what I look up to. Even his annoying sense of humor I admire; life would be boring without it!
The picture below just shows how much we love pictures. Haha!
I love all three of you! You three deserve more than just Father’s Day. Dutchie and Pap Pap, you both raised wonderful children who have become some of the most amazing people I could ask for. Dad, you and I fight all the time but I wouldn’t trade our trips for parts, our derby nights, our stupid little fights that then turn into laughing, our bad singing, or even sliding all over the icy roads for fun for anything. I wouldn’t trade the learning moments of the littlest things like changing tires on the skid loader, operating the machinery, showing my calves and heifers at fair and everything that goes with that. Thank you for your support in everything I do whether it is big, small, success, or a fail. That includes finally getting my license. Thank you for your continued support and love. Thank you for being the best dad a girl could ask for! I love you, dad! Happy Father’s Day!
