Listen up.
We have much bigger, more pressing issues in the world than debating about whether someone who identifies as a certain gender should be allowed to use a certain bathroom or not. I am outraged at those who do not understand that the transgender community, whether you like it or not, have been using whatever bathroom they feel is appropriate long before this moronic legal issue became a huge deal. Has there been a problem until now? Nope.
There shouldn't even be a discussion about "legalizing" this. If a born female now identifies as male, he should be allowed to use the men's bathroom, as he is a man. The fact that our government has to make a stink about it leads me to believe that there's an underlying issue that they're trying to hide. They're using our easily offended natures to manipulate us to become divided about one thing so they can slip another, more important problem right under our noses. Maybe it's a conspiracy theory, but why else would they choose to bring it up now?
It's insane how divided this has made Americans. One side is all for it and the other side is focused on being against it in every way; there is no in between. However, transgendered humans use whichever bathroom they feel is appropriate and no one notices the difference. A great BuzzFeed video even shows what transgendered people do in the bathroom. They go to the bathroom. Shocking! Sometimes, they even fix their hair and...Gasp! Wash their hands! Who are you to say they're in the wrong for doing the exact same thing as a cisgendered person?
I don't care that conservatives and anti-transgender individuals say that you are born to one gender and must cooperate with that gender's roles, even if you don't feel right in your own body. I say, be who you believe you are meant to be and don't let people tell you what you're supposed to feel. These people that go on about how being transgender is "wrong" and "disturbing" are too ignorant to understand how hard it is to be a male trapped in a female's body or a female trapped in a male's body. Not that I would know on a personal level, but I have a few great friends that are transgender and I don't look at them any different from my other friends. This new gender fits them so much better and allows them to be more comfortable in their own skin. I believe everyone deserves an equal chance at being happy with themselves.
I also believe that this should not be a legal issue. Yes, there may be low lives that abuse the law. However, there is another law that must be obeyed: it's called privacy. We, as American citizens, have a right to privacy. Even if someone were to abuse the ability to, say, be a male in a female bathroom, this person would still be charged on violating personal privacy if he became a "peeping Tom." So, why should we punish those who have no intention other than to take a piss and get on with their lives for the select few that might abuse the law? It's just idiotic and counterproductive.
The transgender debate is really getting old. Transgenders are humans, just like everyone else. They are not an issue, nor are they disturbed or mentally unstable. They were simply born into the wrong body. I'm sick and tired of hearing people argue over small, irrelevant "issues" that the country is facing; we need to put focus on what our government is doing about actual issues and where our country is going in the next few years. I'm not one to get into politics, but I do know this: whether it's Trump, Bernie, or Hillary in the White House next year, the U.S. is screwed. Let's take more initiative into deciding who's fit to run our country instead of attacking a group of people who have taken enough abuse as is.
Shout out to all my transgender friends: you guys are amazing and incredibly strong to be able to get through this awful debate. Keep being you and don't let anybody tell you who you are or what to feel. The right people will accept you and love you for who you are.
