“You need to get your ducks in a row”
“Are you sure you know what you are doing?”
“Come on, get your train back on track”
If you have transferred schools you may have heard these sayings once or twice. Now image having transferred schools twice.
Yeah, I heard these sayings on the daily when I was going through my rough decision of picking a college.
I thought I had picked the right college, to begin with, but as I was going through my semester I just didn’t feel like I was in the right place. I struggled with the decision to leave day in and day out. I was not happy with my program. I wouldn’t even leave my dorm unless I was going to church or to class. I knew that this was not a great college experience. It wasn’t until one night where I cried my eyes out to my roommate and boyfriend that I knew I needed to leave and find the right college. My roommate was unbelievably supportive, but my family wasn’t.
“Are you sure you know what you are doing?”
I got that saying almost every time I brought up that I was leaving my school. It probably did not help that I did not know what school I was going to be transferring too. A last minute decision left me at a community college living with my cousin.
During that semester at the community college, I spent majority of my time trying to find my forever college.
“Come on, get your train back on track”
Applying and picking random schools to attend seemed to be my best option. I knew I would eventually find the right school. My parents did not approve of my choices, so they made me move home after the semester to “get my ducks in a row”.
Looking back now, I could not be more grateful for my parents making me come home. When I came home, I found my forever college. It felt like I was in the right place instantly.
I could not be happier than I am now in my senior year, finally at the right school for me.
If there has been anything that I learned from my transferring experience, it is that it’s all right to not pick the right college the first time. It’s even all right to not pick the right college the second time. People around you may be negative towards you unknowing, but don’t let them stop you from finding the right place. When you finally find the right college you’ll know.
