Deciding our next president isn't the only big election about to happen this November. Although many of us will have our eyes on this year's reality show styled and facetious presidential election, others will focus on a much more jovial election. Every November, the Toy Hall of Fame at the Strong National Museum of Play, in Rochester, New York, inducts a new toy into its hallowed halls.
The Toy Hall of Fame was established in 1998, and his since then inducted two to three toys every year. If a toy is to be selected it must have all of the following traits, “icon-status” meaning it recognized, remembered and respected to a vast demographic. It must have “longevity”, it was not just a passing fad but rather carried a multi-generational impact. Lastly, the toy must have a sense of “discovery and innovation” to it, promoting innovation and creativity.
The election which toys make it to the hall of fame is based from public vote and nomination, which is currently open on the National Toy Hall of Fames webpage. Coincidently, much like this year's presidential election, the running for which toys will be inducted is looking to be an interesting race with its current leading nominees. Some of this year’s front-runners include iconic toys such as Lite-Brite, Cabbage Patch, Magic 8 Ball, Transformers, and Nerf, amongst many others.
