What Is Toxic Television Doing To Children?

What are your children really seeing on TV? The statistic that will surprise you.

Are your children watching too much television? This is undoubtedly a question that modern parents will ask themselves over the course of their child’s life. I would like to share my reaction to a staggering number that I came across in my statistics class this week, which will likely make you think twice about the content that your children are being exposed to on a daily basis. Here is the reflection that I wrote in reaction to what I have learned:

“While reading this article, many of the statistics stood out to me. However there was one statistic in particular that made my jaw drop, “the average child will watch 8,000 murders on TV before finishing elementary school.” While this should not surprise me, due to the fact that violence on television is much more common and graphic these days, I was still appalled by this number. This simply reinforces other findings that have shown children becoming desensitized to violence, due to their overexposure to it at young ages. I know that I would not want my future children to fall into this statistic, but I realize that it is probably inevitable unless I meticulously monitor their viewing or do not have a TV in the home. Perhaps I was just a very sheltered child or television was less violent in the '90s, because I honestly do not believe that I come anywhere close to this statistic. I know that the programming that I was watching was not graphic or violent until at least the last few years of elementary school, so I do not think that I would have had the time to add up to viewing those 8,000 murders. Either way, this statistic really saddens me because it seems that children are unknowingly being exposed to this kind of content on a regular basis, so it just becomes the norm for them. This is a scary thought. What if one day we become so desensitized to these scenes of violence, that we act upon what we have seen without a second thought? This statistic definitely gives us all something to think about.”

Did that make you think twice about television? It should. With children growing increasingly exposed to this kind of content, it is more important now than ever, to take the time to use that parental control function on the remote. While virtually nothing can guarantee that your child won’t see television violence at one point or another in their lives and I by no means claim to be an expert on this subject, I do believe that it is important to shelter them while you can and provide them with more educational programming.

6 Things Owning A Cat Has Taught Me

Owning a pet can get difficult and expensive. Sometimes, their vet bills cost hundreds of dollars just for one visit. On top of that, pets also need food, a wee wee pad for a dog, a litter box with litter for a cat, toys, and treats. Besides having to spend hundreds of dollars on them, they provide a great companion and are almost always there when you need to talk to someone. For the past six years, I have been the proud owner of my purebred Bengal cat named Spock. Although he's only seven years and four months old, he's taught me so much. Here's a few of the things that he has taught me.

It's fun to see all of the selfies on social media, they are everywhere. I see pictures with pouty lips, duck lips and pucker lips. I see smokey eyes, huge fake lashes and nicely done nose jobs, boob jobs and butt lifts. Women working out in spandex, tiny tops and flip flops. I see tight abs and firm butts, manicured nails and toes, up dos and flowing hair. "Wow", I think to myself," I could apply tons of make-up, spend an hour on my hair, pose all day and not look like that. Maybe I need a longer stick!"

Ancient Roman Kings: 7 Leaders of Early Rome

The names and dates of the reigns of the first four kings, as well as the alternation of Sabin and Latin names, are more legendary than historical. The last three kings, of Etruscan origin, have an existence which seems less uncertain.

It is evident that all this is only a legend although archeology shows us little by little that these kings if they did not exist as the ancient history, describes them, have at least in the very Outlines were real as chief of a shepherd’s tribe. The period when kings ruled Rome could estimate at 245 years.
