Top Things I'll Miss When I Leave For College

We all leave home eventually, and these are just a few things that we miss.

Top Things I'll Miss When I Leave For College

1. My Dog

I have grown up with my dog and haven't been away from him for more then two weeks. I could never imagine not seeing him for months at a time. I assume many can relate since your dog is always there for you because they never judge you and as long as you play with them or pet them, they'll love you forever. Leaving my dog will be by far my hardest goodbye I'll have to say.

2. My Best Friends

Although I have many friends that I have gotten close to throughout my time in high school, I have two best friends who will be the hardest to leave. When you tell someone every inch and fact of what goes on in your life and see them almost every day and then are separated from them by 5 plus hours, it's crazy and heartbreaking. It seems almost impossible to create that strong of a bond with anyone else. I do hope to find best friends when I get to college but no one will ever replace my girls from home.

3. My Sister

My sister was definitely hard to say goodbye to when she left for college two years ago, but the separation might have made our relationship stronger. I always felt like I had more comfort being at home while she was at school, rather then how I'll feel when we both go to separate schools. At home, I could go into her room and still steal clothes that she left at home; it made the switch of not coming home to her everyday feel less weird. Siblings will always fight, but the forgiveness from that fighting makes your bond closer together.

4. My Bed

I have trouble getting out of my bed in the morning. Everyone just wants to get into their own bed at the end of a long day and that is definitely what I look forward to. My friends and I recently stopped having sleepovers because all we want to do is sleep in our own beds. I've heard several people say that the beds in their dorms are uncomfortable and that you should definitely invest in a egg crate. Sleeping is very important to me, so I hope that I find it comfortable.

5. Jersey Bagels, Pizza and Taylor Ham

I have lived in Jersey for my whole life and have traveled almost the entire United States since my parents love road trips. To me, the pizza in any other state just isn't as good. It doesn't taste the same and the dough isn't as good as the dough we make here in Jersey. (To get really specific, northern Jersey pizza is better then southern Jersey, but that's just me being extremely picky about where I order pizza). Bagels, my goodness, the only bagels that come even close to Jersey bagels are New York, but that's only in the city, which is very close to where I live now. Lastly, Taylor ham, that I've noticed is called "pork roll" almost everywhere else. Where I live, a Taylor ham egg and cheese sandwich is what almost everyone asks for during breakfast

These things will all be hard to say goodbye to, but I hope I can find a new home in Rhode Island

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
