Top Ten Things Brooke Davis Taught Us

"Brooke Davis is gonna change the world someday, and I'm not even sure she knows it."

Top Ten Things Brooke Davis Taught Us

If you've never watched One Tree Hill, then you've never really lived. Not only are you missing out on the opportunity to watch nine seasons of pure magic, but you’re also missing out on one of television’s most impactful characters, Brooke Davis. Brooke taught us all about life and love and everything in between. So in honor of B. Davis, here are the 10 most important things we all learned from her (in no particular order).

1. Friendship:

Friendship is one of life's most precious commodities, and Brooke knew it. She would do anything for her friends, whether it was rescuing them from Internet stalkers (remember psycho Derek?) or putting their children's lives before her own (like when she made Julian save Jamie before herself when their car went off the bridge). She knew that life meant nothing without her friends by her side, and she even moved back to Tree Hill to be with hers (could you imagine if she stayed in New York? Yeah, me neither). We all go through ups and downs in our friendships, but Brooke showed us how to push through the rough patches and focus on the good. We are all a culmination of the people who surround us, and its no wonder why everyone wanted to be surrounded by Brooke.

2. Forgiveness:

If nothing else, Brooke taught us that almost anything can be forgiven. From a cheating boyfriend to a lying best friend to even the man who attacked her, Brooke was forgiving in the most honest way possible. She never faked her emotions and showed us all the pain she went through. While forgiveness wasn’t always easy for Brooke, and may have taken her some time (and some revenge), Brooke was able to forgive almost everyone in her life. Through it all, she showed us the courage it takes to forgive someone and the benefits that can come afterword. After all, if Brooke never forgave Peyton, then she may have never returned to Tree Hill after season 4, and that’s when her life just started getting good.

3. Freedom:

Brooke was a lot of things, but most importantly, she was never anything but herself. She showed us the freedom that comes from being yourself, unapologetically. Brooke taught us to stand up for ourselves and do what we want in life. We are all capable of anything, as long as we are willing to go for it.

4. Fear:

We're all afraid of things in life, and I think most of these fears stem from insecurities. Brooke's high school fears were things that we all have felt, which made her only that much more relatable. While we all know that Brooke is enough (good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, etc.) we also know the struggle she went through to realize her own self-worth. While Brooke seemed like she had it all, she was struggling just as badly as the rest of us. And as we all watched her push through her fears, we learned to push through our own as well.

5. Failure:

While most of us see failure as a negative, Brooke knew that wasn't always the case. She showed us that some of the most positive things can come from failure, and that it is more important what you do after. When Brooke first created “Clothes Over Bros” she didn’t quite succeed. But, after the help of her friends, and her unwillingness to give up, Brooke turned her sketches into a multi-million dollar company. So next time you fail, just think, what would Brooke Davis do?

6. Family:

Brooke didn't have the best luck in the parental department, but she didn't let that hold her back. She showed us that family isn't just blood. Brooke's friends were her family, and she made sure they knew that. And while her mom and dad weren't the easiest people to be around, Brooke proved that blood is thicker than water. She showed us the importance of family and accepting the one you have. Brooke even wanted her own family and to be a mother more than anything. And when it finally happened for her, we all couldn't help but have hope for families of our own one day.

7. Fashion:

Clothes Over Bros, need I say more?

8. Fun:

We all know Brooke knew how to have fun. She was the life of every party and kept everyone on their toes. She brought life to Tree Hill and found positivity in even the darkest situations. She taught us to never take anything, especially yourself, too seriously. Besides, you never know who may fall in love with you and your spontaneous dances.

9. Fight:

Whether physically, mentally, or emotionally, Brooke taught us that no fight was too big. She fought for herself, her friends, and for everything she believed in. She fought her way through the fashion industry and even had to physically fight off her attacker. And through it all, she showed us that while life can be scary, it's also worth living. She never let anything slow her down and only made what troubled her make her stronger.

10. Faith:

Nothing in life can be done without even a glimmer of hope and a lot of faith. We all have big dreams in life, yet most of us won’t even go after them. But I think we all need to take a page from Brooke's book and not give up when the going gets tough. Brooke worked hard for everything she got, and, when nobody else believed in her, she believed in herself. While she questioned her situation and her surroundings many times, she always had faith that things would work out. She had faith in her dream of being a fashion designer, finding love, and becoming a mom. And just as we all had hoped, she got everything she wanted, and much more.

So here's to the girl behind the red door. Here's to the girl who could make us laugh and make us cry. And most importantly, here's to the girl who made Tree Hill the place we all wanted to live.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
