It’s no secret that sorority girls love taking pictures. As “basic” as it sounds, any chance we get, we will snap a picture with our sisters, all for that perfect Insta. Naturally, many of our pictures are taken in frat land, which is natural considering the fact that we spend a fair amount of time at our favorite fraternity houses and in frat land. As a result, there are some notable landmarks that you can count on seeing in your social media feeds every weekend. Here are some of the most photographed locations in the Penn State Greek life social sphere:
1. The Delta Chi Splatter Wall
If you do not know what the splatter wall is, then you clearly do not go to Penn State and you probably don’t know anyone who does. Next to the Lion Shrine, it’s pretty safe to say that the splatter wall is the most photographed backdrop in State College. If you go to D Chi and didn’t get a picture by the splatter wall, did you actually go to D Chi? This photo location is prime because it’s big enough so that there aren’t people lurking in the background of your pictures, because who wants a random drunk boy holding up his middle finger in the back of their Insta? Not cute. The splatter wall will forever be a photo hotspot at Penn State.
2. The Sammy Pit
It’s no secret that the Pit is a top party location, especially during the coveted tailgating season. Sammy’s Pit is a perfect spot for outdoor parties and therefore a perfect spot to snap a picture. When you’re dressed in your cutest tailgate attire, you obviously want the world to know, so therefore you’re going to gather all your friends to snap a picture. Whether you’re at the top of the Pit or by the basketball hoop, Sammy’s Pit is an easy to spot backdrop and one that makes the perfect “I have way more fun than my friends at other schools” statement.
3. Anywhere with a big wooden chair
Many of our favorite fraternities have one of those huge wooden chairs that about four girls can fit on. These chairs are functional because many of our friends can sit on it all at once, and ooze coolness because you look awesome when you’re sitting on something large and above everything else. Whether it’s at Pike, ATO, TDX, Phi Who, or anywhere else, these chairs are sure to be covering your Instagram feed on any given weekend. If you don’t have a picture with one of these things, you have probably never been to a fraternity house in your life.
4. AGR’s Patio
Any time the temperature is above freezing, AGR’s patio is sure to be full of activity. There’s just something about patios that just call for photographs. Like most patio’s, AGR’s provides a nice view of the rest of fratland—a perfect background for your next post. AGR’s patio is also great for the famous sorority family pictures because there’s plenty of room for everyone to line up and “sorority squat” like pros. Even if nothing is going on out on the patio, if you’re at AGR, odds are you’re trying to go out there just for that perfect Insta.
5. Zeta Psi’s Backyard
Zeta Psi has the perfect daylong yard. With a permanent fence and plenty of room, the brothers of Zeta Psi are always hosting some kind of fun outdoor event anytime the weather is at least half decent. For some reason, daylongs are the prime time to take pictures so you can always expect to see some snapshots from Zeta Psi’s yard. The bonus about Zeta Psi is that there are also a lot of picnic tables and rocks to stand on with your friends because nothing says, “I’m having a better time than you” quite like a makeshift elevated surface.
6. Sig Ep’s Front Yard
The brothers of Sig Ep are also known for hosting quite a few daytime events. As we know, daylongs are picture hotspots but when it comes to Sig Ep, the pictures are more than just a testament to day drinking. Sig Ep has a beautiful house; so naturally, girls love taking pictures in front of it. Who doesn’t want to show their friends from other school that they’re partying at a mansion? Scroll through your Instagram feed and you’re sure to see some pictures with Sig Ep’s house serving as the backdrop.
7. Phi Psi’s Front Yard
Every year, Phi Psi throws one of the first daylongs of the spring season and every year, it’s a fun event that basically all of Greek life attends. What makes Phi Psi’s daylong such a photo-friendly event is the fact that it is usually the first time we have seen the sun in about five months after enduring the eternal State College winter. Go to any one of your friends’ social media profiles, look at their pictures, and you’re sure to see something from Phi Psi’s daylongs.
8. Sig Chi’s Cross
The cross in Sigma Chi’s front yard is a Penn State fratland landmark. As soon as you even see a little bit of that thing in the very corner of a photo, you instantly know where it was taken. People love taking pictures sitting on top of Sig Chi’s cross, probably because it is such a staple of Penn State Greek life. Also, the cross is known for being quite festive, such as when it is painted in Christmas patterns during the holiday season. Sig Chi’s cross is sure to pop up on your Instagram feed quite often.
9. Delta Chi’s Tire Swing
D Chi is definitely a photo hotspot. Behind the Lion Shrine and the splatter wall, the tire swing again is probably one of the most photographed locations in State College. There’s no question as to why the tire swing is so popular for pictures; it literally just screams, “I’m having fun!” The point of Instagram really is to show people how awesome your life is and how much fun you are having every single day, and swinging on a tire swing while day drinking will all of your friends is basically the epitome of a good time. Even if you aren’t taking a picture, who wouldn’t want to ride a tire swing in a fraternity’s yard?
