Here I am sharing my personal favorite TV shows of the drama genre— You may have different opinions and that's okay. I hope you enjoy my review, and I would encourage everyone to watch these shows when you get the chance. Now without further ado—drum roll please!—here are my choices in no particular order:
1. "The Walking Dead"
If you're into heart-pounding moments filled with gory zombies trying to eat you, you've come to right place. Now, many people may say that this show is repetitive and boring, but that is seriously not the case. You never truly know what may happen in an episode. The plot starts off with a sheriff named Rick who wakes up from a coma in a hospital quickly realizing that the Zombie Apocalypse has begun. He is seriously not in Kansas anymore! Bullets fly. Blood. Intestines and guts rupture all over the place. Blood. Hungry, hungry zombies. Did I mention blood? This fast paced show is for every zombie-loving fan out there. If you're not into this type of gore then I advise you watch "Dragon Tales" or something else instead. (Not that I have anything against that show) The storytelling and the amount of hard work that is put into "The Walking Dead" is incredible. It has broken countless cable records and will return on October 11 on AMC just in time for Halloween.
2. "The X-Files"
One of my all time favorites, here we have a TV show that became a cult classic. If you haven't seen any episodes of this, you should be ashamed of yourself. But, don't worry, that's why I'm here for. We follow two FBI agents Scully and Fox Mulder who are the main protagonists. They stop at nothing to "uncover what is truly out there." They investigate mind-boggling cases of extraterrestrial or paranormal activity. I remember quite well when the theme song started to play at my cousin's house I would get horrified—petrified to the fullest extent a human can possibly get. I would run away, no joke! "The X-Files" is a classic show of the drama genre, and you're in for a pop culture phenomenon. If you've been living under a rock (I'm looking at you, Patrick Star), they recently announced a return to cable TV. Woo-hoo!
3. "Gotham"
Ahh yes! The program that has many viewers split between thinking it's a horrible show and thinking it's amazing. It all comes down to personal preference. "Gotham" is a show that revolves around detective Jim Gordon and his fight for justice. Viewers also witness the origins of Batman and many of his villainous characters from the comics. Robin Lord Taylor's portrayal of The Penguin is a refreshing new take since Danny DeVito's Penguin in "Batman Returns." Even though this TV show is low budget, every actor seems like they genuinely enjoy being a part of the team. I have high hopes for "Gotham," and can't wait for the blockbuster of season two where we will finally have a better look at the Joker character and Bruce Wayne's inner struggles.
4. "Smallville"
The epitome of classic superhero TV shows. Christopher Reeve, the original Superman actor, believed that this show was remarkable. As a matter of fact, it won awards ranging from Emmy's to Teen Choice Awards. In "Smallville," we follow the footsteps of a young Clark Kent facing his inner struggle of being different and realizing that it's okay to be unique. Even though the special effects in this show are no where close to what we have today, the production and design was incredible. The actors were memorable and Michael Rosenbaum killed it with his portrayal of Lex Luthor. I must not forget the man of the hour, Tom Welling, because to be honest, he blew Clark Kent out of the park as well. To prove the amount of love this show received, it had a whopping 10 seasons! I grew up with "Smallville," and I highly recommend the show because it is the stepping stone of further superhero shows such as "The Flash" and "Arrow. "
5. "Fear the Walking Dead"
The fact that this show broke cable records the first day it aired proves that zombies aren't dead in the minds of the American public. "Fear the Walking Dead" is set place in Los Angeles when a strange flu out-broke in the streets. Panic. Chaos. Destruction. Everything as you know it has changed. "When Civilization ends... it ends fast." The show is barely on it's third episode, so if you haven't seen it yet, now your chance. It is a prequel to "The Walking Dead," as made apparent by the title. Although this show hasn't even finished airing, my zombie gut is telling me we're in for some heavy stuff. There is also this actor named Frank Dillane who looks exactly like a young Johnny Depp, and I have no doubt this guy is going to blow up with his top-notch acting skills. By that alone, I feel that viewers should give this show a chance. You may be in for wild ride!
I would like to name some honorable mentions: "Breaking Bad," "Daredevil," "The Flash," "Full House" (lol), and "Game of Thrones." There is seriously so many great drama shows that there's no way I could have covered them all in this short article. I just wanted to share some of my personal favorites with you guys, and I can't thank you all enough for taking the time to read my choices. Stream these shows at your leisure!
