Well, I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, but my Charleston summer has come to a close. With less than a week to go, Amelia (my roomie) and I are jam-packing the Charleston must-do’s into a matter of five days. So, I thought I might as well share them with you. Love a good adventure or looking to try something new other than shopping on King Street when you travel to the Lowcountry? Look no further! I have a top-five Charleston itinerary planned just for you!
1. Kayak/Paddle Board Shem Creek
This has been one of my favorite adventures of the summer. Grab your best friend or plan the best date and pair up in a tandem (two person) kayak, or go separate and race down Shem Creek. It's not too pricey, and is an easy way to get some exercise, and a great tan! Also, key advice: Paddle close to the shrimper boats and tap the water next to your kayak; you may make some dolphin friends!
2. R Kitchen
You're probably thinking: What? Shouldn't this be in dining, not in "adventures"? Well, that's just it. R Kitchen isn't just a restaurant; it's an entire experience. R Kitchen is tucked away into a tiny house/makeshift kitchen, with only 15 seats available. You are given a five-course meal, and will not know any of the dishes ahead of time. Chefs will laugh and talk with you as you watch their dishes come to life. Hands-down my favorite "restaurant" in Charleston.
3. Boating Around the Battery
Luckily, we got this adventure in before our summer escaped us. One weekend we rented a small boat for a sunset sail around the Battery. A friendly captain sailed the boat as we sat back, and took the view in. Pack a cooler for snacks and drinks, and definitely bring your camera. A little on the pricier side, but absolutely worth it!
4. Walking the Cooper River Bridge
There's a key to this activity: the time. Between 7:30 and 9 p.m., the sun will start to set in the Lowcountry, and the night comes to life. Hues of blood orange, deep purples, and soft pinks invade the sky. As the bridge's incline increases, it feels as though you are walking up into the clouds. A great after-dinner activity to burn off all the shrimp and grits!
5. Biking Sullivan's Island
Combining one of my favorite forms of exercise (biking) with my favorite beach town (Sullivan's Island) was an absolute must. This weekend Amelia and I explored our favorite beach town while pedaling through the neighborhood. A great activity for friends, a day-date, or family!
