As most of you don't know, i'm a musician and avid lover of music in general. 2016 was a huge year for music of all genres. So with the year coming to an end, here is my list of top 10 albums that were released.
10. Kid Cudi- Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin'
Kid Cudi returns with an album a year after he released "Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven". His new album sees him returning to the true Kid Cudi that we all loved on the "Man on the Moon" albums. This album is full of a lot of personal problems Cudi was going through. It was an interesting album which is why it landed at No. 10 on my list.
Best song: "Does It"
9. From Ashes to New- Day OneHailing from the city of Lancaster, Pennsylvania comes rap-rockers From Ashes to New with their debut full length, "Day One". Most people think, "Rap and rock, how can that sound good?" Well these guys can pull it off pretty well. This album is filled with those chorus' that are just meant to be sung along to while you see them live. Stand out songs on the album include, "Lost & Alone" and "Through it All". If you're a fan of old Linkin Park or Hollywood Undead, then I highly recommend checking this album out. You won't be disappointed!
Best song: "Through it All"
8. A Day to Remember- Bad Vibrations
If you're already a fan of A Day to Remember you can always expect them to put out a solid album. But if you're not already a fan, "Bad Vibrations" is the perfect place for you to start. This album is filled with the typical ADTR music. Hard hitting in your face metalcore accompanied by fun pop-rock songs. Two of the heavier stand out songs are, "Paranoia" and "Exposed". But if you're looking for a softer side I owuld suggest the songs, "Same About You" and "Naivety". This album is sure to not dissapointe someone who likes a fair share of clean and dirty vocals.
Best song: "Same About You"
7. Highly Suspect- The Boy Who Died Wolf
"The Boy Who Died Wolf" was a strong follow up to Highly Suspect's 2015 album "Mister Asylum". This one is levels above their previous release. This album is fueled by a more alternative rock vibe. Songs like the album opener, "My Name is Human" and "Viper Strike" show that alt. rock side of the band that they're best known for. If you want to take a more personal approach to the songs then I would suggest checking out "For Billy" and "Chicago". The song "Chicago" is based off heartbreak and the more you listen to it you can really feel what vocalist Johnny Stevens was feeling while writing it.
Best song: "Chicago"
6. Bayside- Vacancy
While Bayside has been around since 2000, I didn't hear of them until this past April. I was at a music conference in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and decided to go watch thier show. Since that show I fell in love with their music. They released "Vacancy" this August. This album is another one of those pop-punk ones that you can relate to, if you're going through a break up that is. This is a very personal album based off vocalists Anthony Raneri's life.
Best song: "Mary"
5. Good Charlotte- Youth Authority
After the band went on a hiatus for six long years, we finally got the long awaited follow up to 2010's "Cardiology". Let me tell you, that long wait was sure worth it. If you love early Good Charlotte, or real any of their music, you'll definitely enjoy this album! This album is full of those pop-punk anthems we all grew up loving. This album is full of those songs that we can relate to more now that we're grown up compared to when they started. If you want an album that's going to take you back to your middle school years, look no further because here it is.
Best song: "The Outfield"
4. Blink-182- California
Blink-182 re-enter the scene after Tom DeLonge quit the band. Replacing DeLonge was Matt Skiba. With the addition of Skiba, the band released their long awaited album "California". This is filled with all your favorite types of Blink-182 songs that we all know and love. There's some of their not so serious songs, but yet it's littered with songs people can relate to. This album will sure give you your fair share of pop-punk.
Best song: "She's Out of Her Mind"
3. The Stage- Avenged Sevenfold
With Avenged Sevenfold's seventh album they hit a real home run. This album has all the elements of their "City of Evil'' album. Catchy guitar hooks, wailing vocals and thunderous drums are what this piece of work is full of. "The Stage'' also has its fair share of slower more meaningful songs such as "Roman Sky''. If you have an extra hour and fifteen minutes to spare, I highly recommend listening to this album from start to finish. It won't disappoint you.
Best song: "Creating God"
2. Real Friends- The Home Inside My Head
If you're looking for an album that's going to hit you straight in the feels, look no further because here it is. With their second full length release, Real Friends knock it out of the park with this one. This album is filled with deep lyrics that almost anyone can relate to. Pop this album in your car at night and go on a long drive. I can guarantee by the second listen through you'll be screaming the lyrics right along with it. You can almost personally feel every emotion lead singer Dan Lambton felt as he was writing these songs. It's a sad and heartfelt album, so prepare yourself.
Best song: "Colder Quicker"
1. Issues- Headspace
Landing my number one album of the year was hands down "Headspace". There is so much feeling in the composition and lyrics of each song. Tyler Carter's clean vocals mixed in with Michael Bohn's screams are the perfect combination. Throw in the thumping rhythm section of drums and bass, along with the chugging guitars and you have perfect album. "Headspace" has all the elements of rock, metal, pop and even some R&B in there. Not your typical metalcore album most would expect to hear. This album is filled with lyrics full of heartbreak, deceit and current problems going on in the world. This album added a sort of freshness to the genre of metalcore.
Best song: "Slow Me Down"
This was an extremely hard list of music to make, seeing that there were tons of great albums released this year. I hope you give some of these albums a listen and maybe find a new artist you've never heard of.
