7 Things You Do When College Finally Starts To Feel Like Home

Now that the awkward beginning phase is over, you can finally rejoice in the comfort of your cramped dorm room.

At some point, the weird beige of your dorm hallways stop feeling industrial and started feeling familiar and the view from your room stopped making you feel out of place and instead grounded you back to reality. Eventually, your college dorm became your home, which you always knew would happen, but here are the top seven things that are sure signs that you are at least beginning to feel at peace here.

1. When the elevator almost closes and kills you, but you remain unphased

Becuase if we're being honest, I was totally scared for those first few weeks. Sometimes, it feels like the elevators are out to get you.

2. When you can’t remember if you locked your door or not… and you don’t really care

It was a really serious thing at first and maybe you should take it more seriously than you do, but when you're already halfway down the stairs to get to class, sometimes you just can't be bothered.

3. When you can finally stop using the Maps app to get you back to campus

...at least for your daily Target run trip. Someday you'll get to know your entire town/city, but for now not having to use your data to do your shopping is a victory in itself.

4. When grocery shopping becomes second nature

Speaking of Target, you find that your weekly grocery run isn't as stressful as it used to be. I mean, to be totally honested I may or may not have called my mom the first time I walked into the market to ask her where vegetable oil would be.

5. When you realize your roommate is your best friend

Coming home every night and being able to debrief with the person that is always there for you is probably the best feeling in the world. Home is where your heart is, and its great when your roommate just casually and platonically steals your heart.

6. When your decorations stop falling down

At first, you thought command strips were God's last gift to humankind, but you quickly overestimated their ability and realized that if you want that tapestry to stay up you're going to need at least seven strips and three packs of putty.

7. When you can sleep with your dorm room door open

Finally, the awkward phase of perfection is over. You know it's your home when you give up caring what the people on your floor think of you and you can finally let them see you in your most vulnerable state. Whether this means being too lazy to close the door for your mid-morning nap, or just crashing in the lounge as your floormates walk by. I mean they are basically your family now, so why should it matter?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
