The world of video games; a child's toy box filled with anything you can think of. We have come into a new digital age where video games are taking over the market and every kid wants the newest console or game. Most of the time video games are portrayed in a bad light for being too unrealistic, or at times too realistic. This negative light overshadows what video games are truly about though. Here are my top 5 reasons why everyone should play a video game.
5. Video games are beautiful
Video game developers put a ton of time into the making of scenery and world that you are immersed in. They invest so much time in this to make you believe that you are actually there. With the new innovations of virtual reality, you can now feel like you are actually your character. As time goes on graphics will continue to be better and better and there may come a point where we may not be able to tell a difference between graphics and the real world. Another thing that makes video-games so beautiful is the variety of art styles throughout the gaming world. From pixelated to cell-shaded to full realistic, there is so much variety and beauty in video games. So next time your playing a video game look around and you may find yourself in awe of the beauty of it all.
4. The emotional connection to the characters
One of the key elements to any good story is the characters. As we watch our favorite TV shows and read our favorite books, we become emotionally attached to the characters as they go throughout their lives. Video games are no different, except you are playing as those characters and you have control of their actions. There are also NPC's (non-playable characters) that will help or hurt you throughout the game. In most games the NPC's steal the show. The NPC's are programmed so perfectly, at times, that you begin to feel an emotional connection to them through the game. I know several games where I have cried because the character I was emotionally attached to died, and i thought it was all my fault. Sure there are some characters that have an awful development throughout a story, but most are so well made that you will want to invite them over to meet your family and have dinner with them.
3. You can play however you want to
One of the most popular genres today in the video game industry is the role-playing genre. This genre lets you make your own character at the beginning of the game and you get to make your own decisions. The role-playing genre is kind of like living a second life where you can do whatever you want. This also goes for game-play, if you want to be a nice person who helps people with their problems you can do that. If you want to be evil and destroy everything in sight you can do that too. Even in non-role-playing games you still have lots of choices to make and you can make them however you want. This freedom of 'do whatever you want' is not given to us in the real world, which is why video games are such a great outlet. Not only can you play however you want you can do whatever you want through video games.
2. Video games are fun!
You probably saw this one coming. Video games are great for almost any occasion. With the feature of local plays, four people can come together, in a single space, and play games with one another. This idea of gathering people together to play video games is not about who wins or loses it's about having fun and enjoying everything video games have to offer. You can also play alone and still enjoy the game you are playing. Sure, some games can be very frustrating but the reward of beating those games is so satisfactory you will have forgotten about the frustration you had and remembered all the fun you had. So have fun playing video games and don't take them so seriously.
1. Video games foster and help grow imagination and creativity
While playing video games you would never think that your brain would strengthen and learn something new. Video games help people's imagination grow and grow. Some of the most imaginative and creative people I know, grew up with video games and are constantly becoming innovators in the worlds. My younger brother and I grew up with video games together and it's amazing to see how much he has grown and matured through video games. One day he is going to do great things in the world, I just know it.
So go out and play a video game, I promise you won't regret it.
