If you've ever seen Grey's Anatomy, you know that Meredith Grey is the primary narrator of the show and she honestly says some pretty amazing and inspirational things. Sometimes we need a little bit of inspiration in ours lives and what better way to get it than from characters in our favorite television shows? I know most people will look at me like I'm crazy and laugh when I say that I've learned so much from the doctors at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, but it's the truth. Plus, if you're a diehard fan, you know just as well as I do, that you now know absolutely everything there is to know about the human body and medicine in general. So, here are some of my favorite Meredith Grey quotes from the series.
1. "We all think we're going to be great. And we feel a little bit robbed when our expectations aren't met. But, sometimes, our expectations sell us short. Sometimes, the expected simply pales in comparison to the unexpected. The unexpected...is what changes our lives."
2. "If there's just one piece of advice I can give you, it's this--when there's something you really want, fight for it, don't give up no matter how hopeless it seems. And when you've lost hope, ask yourself if 10 years from now, you're gonna wish you gave it just one more shot because the best things in life, they don't come free."
3. "At some point, you have to make a decision. Boundaries don't keep other people out. They fence you in. Life is messy. That's how we're made. So, you can waste your life drawling lines. Or you can live your life crossing them."
4. "Sometimes it's good to be scared. It means you still have something to lose..."
5. "Time flies. Time waits for no man. Time heals all wounds. All any of us wants is more time. Time to stand up. Time to grow up. Time to let go. Time."
6. "Knowing is better than wondering, waking is better than sleeping, and even the biggest failure, even the worst, beats the hell out of never trying."
7. "And people can be broken, sure, but any surgeon knows, what's broken can be mended. What's hurt can be healed. That no matter how dark it gets, the sun's going to rise again."
8. "We're friends, real friends. And that means, no matter how long it takes, when you finally do decide to look back, I'll be here."
9. "Yes, horrible do things do happen. Happiness, in the fact of all of that, that's not the goal. Feeling the horrible, and knowing that you're not gonna die from those feelings, that's the point."
10. "Change, we don't like it, we fear it. But we can't stop it from coming or we get left behind. It hurts to grow. Anybody who tells you it doesn't is lying, but here's the truth: sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same. And sometimes, oh, sometimes, change is good. Sometimes, change is...everything."
11. "Some days, the whole world seems upside down. And then somehow, improbably, and when you least expect it, the world rights itself again."
12. "Life is not a spectator sport. Win, lose, or draw, the game is on. So go ahead...argue with the ref, change the rules, cheat a little, take a break and tend to your wounds. But play. Play. Play hard, play fast...play loose and free. Play as if there's no tomorrow."
13. "He's very dreamy, but he is not the sun--you are!"
14. "Just because we can live without something, it doesn't mean we have to."
15. "I don't know why we all hang on to something we know we're better off letting go of. It's like we're scared to lose something we don't really have. Some of us say we'd rather have something than absolutely nothing, but the truth is, to have it halfway is harder than not having it at all. "
If you made it to the end, I hope you enjoyed my little walk down Meredith Grey lane.
