10 Most Notorious United States Serial Killers

I want to write about something a bit outside of my "comfort zone" today. I want to delve deeper into the deranged and maniacal minds of some of America's most infamous serial killers. The term "serial killer" is defined as anyone who kills three or more people and is usually due to a psychological condition that causes personal gratification from murder. Since the time for sick psychos is drawing near, here are the top 10 United States serial Kk

10. David Berkowitz

Aliases: "The Son of Sam" or "The .44 Caliber Killer"

Arrested: New York City, 1977

Crime: Berkowitz was guilty of killing six people with a 44-caliber revolver and sending several taunting letters to authorities. He was arrested in 1977 and was given 25 years for each murder he committed. He will likely never be released.

9. John Wayne Gacy

Aliases: "Pogo the Clown"

Arrested: 1980

Crime: If you didn't hate clowns before, you sure will now. John Wayne Gacy was known as Pogo the Clown and was often invited to children's birthday parties. He would lure teenage boys to his house before strangling them with a tourniquet. Gacy claimed over 30 victims before being captured due to the rancid odor emanating from beneath his house. Gacy was executed in May of 1994.

8. Ted Bundy

Executed: 1989

Crime: Ted Bundy is one of, if not the most infamous names in serial killing. Bundy was known for luring his female victims to secluded spots where he would assault and then murder them. Crime: Dennis Rader, known as the BTK Killer (Bind Torture Kill) was responsible for claiming the lives of 10 people between 1974 and 1991. Rader would stalk, bind and strangle his victims to death. He was known for sending taunting letters to police due to their inability to catch him. In 2005, Rader sent a floppy disk to authorities that they traced back to his home. He is currently serving 10 consecutive life sentences with a release date set for 2180.

6. Tommy Lynn Sells

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
