You survived spring break!!! I'm going to go ahead and assume that your vacation took place somewhere warm, maybe tropical, where a swimsuit was required. Maybe you prepped for the trip with a crazy diet and exercise regimen, or maybe you didn't do much at all — but whatever the case may be, everyone has finally seen you in your swimsuit, and you are now back in frigid State College where you can hide your body from the world for the next several months.
And you know what that means: food.
I gave up chips and beer before spring break, and while I'm not willing to admit how many kettle-cooked potato chips I've eaten or how much beer I've consumed since returning from Cancún, let me tell you — it's been a lot. After months of regular exercise and a healthy diet, I think I deserve a week (or three) to binge a bit on the foods I've missed so much while trying to prep for spring break.
Without further ado, here are the best places in State College to get your binge-eating fix now that you no longer have your "spring break bod" looming over your head.
1. Gumby's. Get an extra large order of Pokey Stix, slather them in ranch and marinara, add more ranch (because you can never have too much) and consume enough cheesy, garlicky, carb-y goodness to make you want to die. Regret nothing.
2. The Waffle Shop. Honestly, just go big. Get an omelette, home fries, a side of bacon, waffles (with chocolate chips and whipped cream, obviously), and maybe even an English muffin if you're feeling wild. Eat it all. Do NOT order the side of fruit.
3. Rotelli. This is an Italian restaurant, so that's pretty much all that needs to be said. Just make sure you order the dish that incorporates the most pasta, cream sauce and melted cheese into one entrée, and don't scrimp on the parmesan-dusted rolls. I have dreams about those rolls.
4. Panera. OK, hear me out on this one. I considered Panera a pretty good pre-spring break destination for a nice You-Pick-2 garden salad and black bean soup with an apple, but you can go so far in the other direction that beautiful things start to happen. This is what you do: order a bread bowl. Inside the bread bowl? Mac 'n cheese. And you know your side has got to be a French baguette.
5. Are U Hungry. This is the only place in the world where you can order a sandwich containing steak, bacon, cheese, a chicken finger and two mozzarella sticks, and no one will question your choice. I honor your decision. Clog your arteries and never look back.
6. The Corner Room. Up your level of class enough to go to this sit-down restaurant, and splurge on a massive sandwich and greasy French fries. Notice as passersby judge you when they observe your eating habits through the windows of the booths facing College Ave. Take a huge bite to make them jealous.
7. Mad Mex. This one only applies to people 21 and up, but it's important enough to include anyway. Get that Big A** frozen margarita with extra strawberry syrup and enough calories to qualify it as a meal, and finally discover what you've been missing out on. Order another, and pair it with nachos AND a quesadilla, and feel no shame when you consume both.
8. Wings Over. Boneless. Extra sauce. With waffle fries and ranch. Don't be that guy with leftovers. Persevere.
9. Baby's. Their milkshakes are made fresh at the counter, and they serve a burger which uses glazed doughnuts as the bun. That's all I'm going to say.
10. Chipotle. I couldn't NOT include Chipotle on this list. But don't you dare get a salad or a bowl. Order that burrito, and fill it with literally every item they offer, including extra cheese and guacamole. Yes, you know guac is extra, and it's worth every penny.
So now, with this encouraging — albeit abridged — list of restaurants you absolutely must go to now that you're in a position to gain back all the weight you lost before spring break, get out there and eat!
