From a young age, you’re taught that somewhere out there, there’s a Price Charming waiting to sweep you off your feet and ride with you into the sunset to a destination called Happily Ever After. Well if you haven’t already figured it out, that kind of love story only exists in a fictional world. But we can still dream, right?
Through our favorite shows and our beloved romcoms, we are able to revert back to our childhood fantasies and follow our favorite love stories from beginning to end.
Here are the top 10 film and television couples that had us believing in true love.
1. Ross and Rachel, “F.R.I.E.N.D.S.”
After three failed marriages, a ‘break’ that wasn’t a break (it totally was, Ross), one love child and nine years later, we saw these two lovebirds finally commit to each other on the last episode of the show’s 10-year stint. Ross and Rachel started off as friends, but we always knew these two had an undeniable chemistry. He’s her lobster, after all.
2. Derek and Meredith, “Grey’s Anatomy”
Despite the highly inappropriate intern/resident relationship these two had, you couldn’t help but swoon every time Derek and Meredith had a moment in the elevator. You followed this romance through a bombing, a shooting and a plane crash, and just when you thought these two have survived it all… (Spoiler!) Derek dies unexpectedly after sustaining a head injury from a car accident. You’ll always cherish the start though, when Derek stumbled across that ‘girl from the bar.’
3. Johnny and Baby, “Dirty Dancing”
You know, I have to mention this forbidden love story. It's an oldie but surely a goodie. We know Baby as the innocent, shy teenager vacationing with her family in the Catskills. When she comes across this hunky, but bad boy dance instructor, Johnny Castle, Baby falls in love for the first time. Their relationship develops over the course of several dance lessons, one thing leads to another and these two end up surprising everyone with their low-key but passionate romance.
4. Corey and Topanga, “Boy Meets World”
Talk about setting the bar high, right? These childhood sweethearts stole our hearts years ago when "Boy Meets World" was the must-see show of the late 90s and early 2000's. Corey and Topanga have that once-in-a-life time love, and lucky for them they found it at an early age. They grow up together; loving each other and experiencing everything life has to offer. Soul mates forsure.
5. Chuck and Blair, “Gossip Girl”
Their relationship was a modern twist on the classic love story “Affair to Remember," except with more drama, deceit, and betrayal. But behind all that drama were grand gestures, romantic trips, expensive gifts and a passion like no other. We got to see how a love as complicated as theirs endured through the many obstacles they faced. It was a glamorous love that never ceased to amaze us viewers.
6. Jack and Rose, “Titanic”
Jack and Rose had a brief romance, but surely one to remember. These two defied all odds when they got together on the Titanic. Despite both coming from different backgrounds, Jack and Rose were destined to meet. Unfortunately we all know how the movie ends.
7. Noah and Allie, “The Notebook”
It was love at first sight for Noah. For Allie, it took a persistent and inquisitive Noah and a romantic dance in the middle of the street. But for both of them, that summer of 1940 brought them a love that would last a lifetime. From the beginning we knew that these two were all wrong for each other and different in every way imaginable. But once again, we see a love that endured disapproving parents and time.
8. Carrie and Big, “Sex and the City”
Everyone’s favorite single girl finally found love in the sexy and suave Mr. Big. Though it was no easy feet locking down the heartbreaking publishing executive, Carrie managed to find the love she was so desperately seeking. With 10 years in the making and countless boyfriends in between (you can’t forget about Aidan) Carrie Bradshaw taught us that with a Cosmo in one hand and the help of our friends, we can find that Prince Charming.
9. Landon and Jamie, “A Walk to Remember”
If you didn’t cry during this movie, there is something wrong with you. Landon and Jamie meet in school, he’s the popular bad boy and she’s the conservative, daughter of the Reverend. The fall in love, despite what his friends think about her but tragedy strikes when we learn that Jamie has Leukemia. Landon sweetly takes care of her till the very end. But Jamie leaves him a better and more ambitious man.
10. Patrick and Kat, “10 Things I Hate About You”
A spin on the classic Shakespearian play, “Taming of the Shrew,” this love story is one of my favorites to say the least. (Mostly because of Heath Ledger) Kat is the edgy shrew that hates the world and everyone in it. When she agrees to go to the dance with Patrick, she inevitably learns of his set up with her sister’s date. She’s heartbroken of course because she was starting to really like him. After an apology in the form of finding an expensive guitar in the car, these two manage to make up and be lovey-dovey and all that.
