Today I Said A Prayer

For A Nation, For A President, For A People

Today I Said A Prayer
The Wall Street Journal

Today I said a prayer.

For a nation that has been divided. For a nation that has been hurt. For a nation that has lost its way.

Today I said a prayer.

For people who need hope. For people who need help. For people who need humanity.

Today I said a prayer.

For a man who holds that power. For a man who leads the free world. For a man who is the 45th President of the United States of America.

I prayed for his character to be strengthened through the demands of this job. I prayed for his views to be broadened through the magnitude of his leadership. I prayed for his guidance to only benefit and never harm any persons in our country. I prayed, oh, I prayed.

Today I said a prayer.

That God would keep His hand on us, His children in His favored nation. That we would turn ourselves back to Him and cease this straying away. That His power and love would be greater than any presidential power bestowed unto any man.

Today I said a prayer.

For my candidate was not chosen. For my voice was heard, but overruled. For someone else was elected.

I prayed for those who rally against this man who was choses President of the United States. I pray for those who have grieved so harshly that they have hurt their brothers and sisters in the process. I prayed for those who do not accept as American citizens the man that our democratic process has elected as our leader for the next four years. I prayed, oh, I prayed.

Today I said a prayer.

That those people would come to their senses and stop further dividing our nation. That those people would stop hurting our country. That those people would instead use their energy in a positive way to bring our United States back to its way.

Today I said a prayer.

That the 45th President of the United States of America would surpass all my expectations and deny all my doubts and instill in this nation a sense of pride and hopefulness that has been missing for so long. That in his term he would learn, and grow, and become a man who we can all respect and be proud to follow and feel safe under his guidance.

Donald J. Trump was not my candidate. However, he is my President. Out of the deepest respect for my country and the men and women who came before him to create this great nation we are blessed to call our home, I will stand for him and I will honor his leadership. That is my responsibility as an American. I will continue to pray every day that my Lord will have his hand on our president throughout his term. That is my responsibility as a Christian.

So,

Today I said a prayer.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
