To Those with Depression

Life gets rough and everything comes at you all at once.

I won't pretend to know what you are going through. I won't say I have been there, but I will say that I am here for you. Whether you are a stranger, close friend, or family, I will be here for you.

It's OK to be scared and unsure. It's OK to want to be alone and away from people. It's OK to be sad and upset. But you should not feel like you are alone. I hope with all my might that you never feel like you are completely alone. I promise there are people who you have never met who would love to just talk to you, to make you feel wanted; I am one of those people.

Life gets rough and everything comes at you all at once. It gets hard and confusing, but it will get better. It could be just a smile you get from a stranger or a compliment from the cashier at a store; anything that would bring some light into your life. Sometimes it may take a little for that light to come through, but I promise at some point it will be there.

It's not easy to overcome depression. People will tell you to just do what used to make you happy, to dress nice and go out, to try to smile more, or even to just stop being depressed. It's not easy, not one bit. When people are depressed, doing what they love does not have the same effect, it loses its greatness it once had. Dressing nice and going out won't make much of a difference.

Depression is not the same thing as being sad. Depression is a serious disorder that needs to be treated. It is not easy to treat because everyone is different. Depression is not always easy to detect. Some people are better at hiding there depression than others.

As someone who has seen the effects of depression, I hope everyone at some points get the courage to talk to another person about what they are going through. It takes a lot of courage to be able to talk about what it happening, and I hope everyone gains the strength they need to overcome this disorder.

Please, please, please if you ever feel like the depression may be winning, try to talk to someone who you feel comfortable with. Don't let it win; there is so much more to life than this, I promise. Just know you are never alone, even when it feels like it. You are a beautiful person with a wonderful life ahead of you, don't let depression take away what you deserve. Stay strong my friend!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
