To The People Who Have Lifted Me Up

To the people who have lifted me up,

Thank you to the people who have noticed when I am not OK, despite me telling them I was fine. Thank you to the friends that made me laugh and dance around like an idiot until I felt better when I was disappointed, again. Thank you to the people who I never have to look for when times just aren’t the best. I am so lucky to be able to say that there are people in my life that I can depend on and count on to lift me up when everything feels like it’s coming crashing down. I love you all.

Unfortunately, it’s easy to be disappointed by people, but you’ve always been there. Some days are not always the best, and that makes feeling sad easy. When the people around you let you down and the days just aren't going your way, it’s reassuring to remember that there are people who care and love you – people who aren’t going to settle for you having another bad day. Thank you for being that person.

You could have said to get over it, be patient, or just relax. You could’ve devalued my feelings and made me feel like I was wrong to not be OK, but you didn’t. The truth is that everyone has a bad day every now and then, but what separates a bad day from becoming an even worse day are the people you surround yourself with. Having people like you in my life make it easier when things just don’t go my way. Thanks for not giving up on me.

Thank you for all the times you lifted me up even when I wasn’t sad. You being there made a good day great and a great day even greater. That’s the best part. I don’t have to need you for you to be there – you just are. That’s what separates you from everyone else. You are there no matter what is going on in my life and no matter how far away from each other we may be. I will forever be grateful for that.

This may be the most important part. You shouldn’t ever have to ask someone to be there for you when you need them most. You also shouldn’t have to search for them when times are tough. You shouldn’t need to beg for their advice and comfort. Thank you for never making me feel that way. I hope that you know I don’t take you for granted. Your words of advice are special to me and help shape the way I look at certain situations. Every piece of encouragement you’ve given me has built me up, and has made me become someone who is strong. You have shown me that other’s actions are not a reflection of who I am and that everything happens for a reason. You have lifted me up and I am a better person for having known you.

So thank you for the humor and weird jokes, the dance parties, the endless supply of greasy food, the hugs, laughter, and love that you have brought into my life. There are not many people like you out there, and I will always consider myself beyond lucky to have you in my life. To my friends and family, the people I love with all my heart, thank you for lifting me up.

Always with love.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
