This is a letter to everyone who makes fun of me for choosing to go to Idaho for college. This is to the people that have to ask why I picked Idaho and to the people who just can’t help but to ask if I am majoring in Potato Farming. Because honestly when I think I have heard it all, someone else has something to say. Normally I just laugh and joke with, but I wanted to share why I chose to move my life to the blue because some people just don’t get it.
In the beginning, I was right there with you. I did not think that great of the state of Idaho. In fact, when my college advisor senior year told me this school would be a good choice for me, I had never actually heard of it before but that didn't stop me from checking it out. And after looking up Boise Idaho online and seeing the images come up, I knew it was worth a shot! Then, after the campus tour, I knew I wanted to go there.
Boise, Idaho is probably one the most under-appreciated cities. It may be cliché but Boise allowed me to see the beauty in the little things. It made me realize that small cities are great too. Boise has pushed me to look at things differently. Boise is the perfect balance for me. It's a little small for a city, but the mountains surrounding it make up for it. A chance to ski on a real mountain is just within an hour or two of a drive. Boise also has all four seasons. Instead of just summer, or in Minnesota’s case, just winter and maybe a month of summer.
I picked Boise State because it had everything that I was looking for in a school. It’s as simple as that! It was the perfect sized school, in a college town. I don’t think I even need to mention how awesome our sport teams are, as well as so much more. Boise State has brought me to meet some of the most amazing people through Greek Life or through joining The Marching Band or by just talking to the people in my classes. I don’t know what it is but everyone in Boise is so nice.
So let’s be real. The more you make fun of me, the more I want to stay. Because I know what’s up. And I hate to be honest but if you do end up saying something mean it means you have never been here before. Because if you have you wouldn’t be making fun of it, would you?
