Have you ever felt stuck in life? Have you believed that even though the world is turning, marking a new day every 24 hours, you feel like your life has been standing at a steady plateau for who knows how long? Do you ever think that there is so much more to life than what you have in yours, what you're experiencing, and yet those dreams feel just out of reach?
My friend, if you can relate to any of the above questions, then this one is for you.
While this might be something that is an everyday or common occurrence for young adults, it still doesn't make it any less frustrating. It is understandable to feel stuck in life. You might be in a situation where you can't leave, or where you can leave, but any opportunity to leave just hasn't arrived yet.
You might be at a standstill in your career. You could be waiting for that promotion that will probably never come for a multitude of reasons, but you can't leave either for yet another set of reasons.
It might not be what you want to hear, but I think that this it is OK to feel stuck in life sometimes.
Being stuck is how we grow.
This probably seems counterintuitive to you. Of course, new experiences are what we typically think of when the subject of growing is brought up. Growing as a person often requires trying new things, meeting new people, traveling to new places, thinking of new ideas.
Yet, you can also grow by being stuck.
Your character can develop through how well you persevere in the adversity that we attribute the concept of being stuck to.
If you persevere, if you continue to fight and believe that this is not the only thing you'll ever be in life, the only thing you'll ever achieve, then you will gain a self-confidence that will be sturdier than anything that you could ever imagine.
Believing that things will change can do a lot for a person's tenacity and resilience. You prove not only to yourself, but to the people around you, that you can take a seemingly unmoving situation and change it around so that it ends up benefitting you.
But if you give in to the plateau, you give up any chance of developing as a person.
So if you ever want to give up when you find yourself in a static situation, remember that sometimes, the greatest skills we need in this world can come from a time when we doubt things will ever change.
