Dear Mom and Dad,

Thank you for your unconditional love through the years. You both have always been a continuous support system in everything I have done and everything I continue to do. From driving me around to all of my activities and sleepovers when I was younger and in high school to visiting me on campus when I'm missing you guys, you have never failed at being there for me. Thank you for the sacrifices you have made in your lives to better mine.

I know I must have been a handful when I was younger, but thank you for establishing rules and morals in my life to live by. Thank you for raising me in church and showing me what a true family is supposed to be like.

Thank you for listening to all of my indecisive jabbering, and sharing your opinions on what you think is best for me.

Mom, thank you for making me laugh when I feel like it's hardest. Dad, thank you for being my strong rock to lean against when I feel like I'm falling.

I know when I left for college you both experienced the empty nest syndrome, but you told me it was fine because that's what is supposed to happen. Thank you for explaining to me that it is OK for me to not want to live at home forever.

Thank you for challenging me and pushing me to be a better person and to do the right thing.

Thank you for showing me what love is supposed to look and feel like. There are no other parents I'd rather have.

Mom, I hope I can be at least half the mom you have been to me. You have shaped me into who I am today, and as I am growing older I am definitely starting to see your compassion come alive in me.

Dad, thank you for showing me how a husband is supposed to treat his wife, and how a daddy is supposed to treat his daughter. I hope one day my husband will take after you.

Thank you both for the long hugs goodbye, and for never leaving without telling me you love me.

Thank you for providing for me beyond what was needed, even when I wasn't thankful. You both are such a blessing to not only me, but to those who you encounter.

I not only strive to one day be wonderful parents, as you have been to me, but to also spread the joy of the Lord as you do.

Thank you for all you have done and will do for me, and mostly for all of the love you have showered me with.

Love, your daughter,

Kelsey

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
