To The Most Important Person In My Life

I’m sorry I don’t thank you enough.

There is a very special person in each of our lives that we often forget to acknowledge. I think it's important to remember that this guy or girl deserves a little credit not just every once in a while, but every day. The fact that this one person exists in each of our lives is truly what makes it all possible. Here are the thoughts that this person deserves to be told and reminded of at least once every day. Whether they're having a great day or a bad day, you should always make sure that this person hears these words from you. I’m telling you, they deserve it.

Since I can remember, you've been the first person I see when I wake up in the morning and it makes me so happy.

You look great, even in pajamas.

Your smile brightens up a room.

You're the total package: smart, funny, talented, stylish, caring... You name it, you've got it.

You're a good friend.

You have a special skill set of things only YOU know how to do. That makes you 110% one of a kind.

Your passion for your hobbies and interests touches my heart.

There really is nobody like you on this whole entire earth.

Our world would not be the same without you in it.

You're a blast to hang out with.

Your taste in music rocks.

I like sharing in new experiences with you.

You inspire me to be a better person every day.

I like how you make a conscious effort to keep the feelings of others in mind.

You're doing the best you can, and that should be enough for everyone including you.

Even when you make mistakes, it does not make you a bad person.

Even when you're wrong, it doesn't make you a bad person.

You're not a bad person, period.

You're the best person I know.

I love you.

Now here's what you do:

Take this list.

Go to a mirror.

Look in the mirror.

Look yourself in the eyes.

Recognize that YOU are this special person in your life.

Nothing would be possible without you. Every time you wake up and decide to drag yourself out of bed- whether it's at 6 am or 6 pm, you're making life happen. You're making YOUR life happen. And for that, you can't thank yourself enough. You shouldn't thank yourself enough. Parents and role models and schools and professors can give you all the tools you need to succeed in whatever you want to, but unless you take what you want up in your own hands and in your own heart, the world won't spin a single 360 for you. It's you that makes it happen. Sometimes, we forget how important we are to ourselves, or we allow ourselves to diminish the important role we play in our own lives. It's easy to forget when you have so many responsibilities to other people and things. The biggest responsibility you should have is to take care of yourself.

You cannot pour from an empty cup, from a cracked glass. Glass wear and pottery that has been deemed invaluable while broken, when set back together with liquid gold becomes more beautiful and valuable after being broken and put back together. You are the same way. Your ups and downs and rights and wrongs make you uniquely you: one-of-a-kind, rare and beautiful with all kinds of cracks that each tell a different story in regards to how you have come to be yourself.

I wish I believed this every day. I almost sound like I’m lying. I wish I could say this to myself every day. I don't say this to myself every day. I should say this to myself every day. That's where this list comes in handy. Look in the mirror and say it to yourself out loud. Say it like you mean it, even if it sounds like a lie coming out of your mouth the first time... Even if it sounds like a lie coming out of your mouth the first hundred times. Say it until you start to believe it. If you don't believe it, pretend you're saying it to a friend that's having an off- day or in need of uplifting. Say it until you become that friend to yourself and say what you deserve to hear. Nobody is gonna be a better friend to you than you(or at least that's how it should be).

Give it a try. Pass it along to someone else.

I promise that I will too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
