We, as humans, are filled with emotion. Whether those feelings that dwell inside us be a form of hate, love, passion, or sincerity, they are there. In new situations and moments of strength or weakness, we are created into new versions of ourselves each and every day. Here are just some of the common ones and some things to take back from them.

To my sad self: This version is temporary. It’s ok to feel sad and a necessary part to being human. Whatever is haunting you now will dissipate and these thoughts in your head will quiet themselves. Whether it be in five months or five years, these mountains you’re climbing will be merely just bunny hills, something so small it doesn’t even cross your mind to step across.

To my happy self: Stay this way. Feel this feeling infinitely because you’ll never get tired of it. Soak in every emotion you possess and every sensation that is running through your veins while you have this chance. Most importantly, share this self, it is your very best version of you, your smile and laugh are contagious and you have the power to spread this joy.

To my angry self: Wait a few minutes. Take a step back, breath, and reconsider. Is it worth it? Is this worth your time, the control of your mind and the kidnapping of your happiness? It’s ok to be angry, but don’t let it consume you. Feel it, think about it, and let it go. Forgiveness is in your best interest and quality of life.

To my nervous self: This is good, really good. Whatever it is, it’s clearly important to you and you’re going to be fine. You’re going to go outside your comfort zone and realize all the new doors this is opening for you. That knot in your stomach is going to guide you to new and great things.

To my jealous self: Don’t be. You are you for a reason and that’s a wonderful you. Life goes beyond what you see so take a step back and appreciate what you have and who you are. It is important to be thankful for everything you are or have than pout for what you don’t.

To my creative self: Don’t stop thinking and don’t stop working. Your mind is intertwined with more abstract and colorful ideas than you may have even known. Express all of those thoughts and create something beautiful.

Embrace every self you possess and be the very best version of you that you can be.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
