To The Man Responsible For Barock Turner's Early Release

As young girls, we are always warned by our parents. We are told horrifying stories of men who take advantage of women. Men who take advantage of women at parties when they are under the influence. Men who spike other girls drinks to get them unconscious and naked. We are told to avoid that at all costs. We are told to not become "that girl" who gets taken advantage of. At a very young age, we learn how wrong rape is. We also learn that it is one of the most heinous crimes known to man. We learn that men who are guilty of such an act, get put away for many many years, sometimes even for life. We learn that it is a crime so unacceptable among Americans, and we avoid it. We mourn and give our hearts our to those who have endured it, and the punishments that the defendants receive are the only thing that makes such an act okay. We rejoice in the fact that these individuals are unfit for society, and we feel safer in our beds each night, as we learn that these individuals will no longer be a part of society, as they become a part of the prison subculture.

However, in 2016, America learns that another women is raped at a University. We also learn, that the man responsible for this crime is receiving a 6 month jail sentence. For weeks, America is outraged. Outraged at the man responsible for such an unthinkable crime, is receiving such a mild punishment. Three months later, we learn of news that shocks us more. America learns that Mr. Barock Turner got released from jail after serving three months. We also learn that the individual responsible for Turner's early release is a man by the name is Judge Persky.

Tell me, your honor, what makes it okay for a man to take advantage of a drunk girl, vulnerable and undeserving?

What makes it okay to send a message across America that rape is acceptable?

What message do you think your sending to young men out there who are trying to understand the difference between right and wrong?

Do you realize that such a lenient sentence is an insult to each and every single women in America?

What makes it okay to give Mr. Turner a get out of jail free card for his unthinkable actions?

What makes it okay, for this women, who was brutally taken advantage of to not receive justice?

To the man that is responsible for Barock's early release, how dare you. You send an unthinkable and unjustifiable message out to those fighting against rape. Did you ever think about what this poor women was going through the night Barock raped her? Did you ever consider the hell that this poor women is enduring? Did you ever grasp on to the fact that rape is very wrong?

Have you considered the possibility that Barock can reoffend? Yet another women, can be taken advantage of by this criminal who now walks the streets freely. You send a clear message that rape is in fact, okay. You are a beautiful demonstration of the corruptness in our world, and our justice system and a judge like you deserves to be disbarred. A man like you doesn't deserve to sit in the chair that you do. You clearly aren't able to grasp onto the fact that the purpose of punishment is for the defendant not to reoffend.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
