Ah, yes. It’s February, and it is that time again. You’re single and hoping that maybe, just maybe, the universe will grant you with a good looking guy with a dozen roses and chocolate right before the most dreadful day of the year for a single girl. This article is not meant to bash Valentine’s Day or be bitter toward those who are happily in love with their significant other. The goal is to tell you that me, you and all the other single ladies out there, can make being single look awesome.
We all know how our ideal prince charming would look like and act like. Mine would be anything from Channing Tatum to Leonardo DiCaprio, but that’s just me. So, he hasn’t shown up yet, and that’s OK. At the end of the day, we don’t need prince charming, or any other man, in order to be the best women that we can be.
As a young college student, we are blossoming; into grand, educated young women. We are spending thousands of dollars on these years to better ourselves as well as our futures. Adding a boy to that mix would, of course, make things much nicer, but really — we are not at college to speed date. We are here for ourselves. So single ladies, keep doing you… independently and successfully.
OK, so maybe the lack of a boyfriend is not your specific problem. Maybe it is that you’re simply too hard on yourself. So, you get yourself to the gym; buy a cute outfit or the newest Naked Palette from Sephora. But somehow, that pretty boy still isn’t appearing. One thing I can tell you is: it is not you. Any amazing guy would be lucky to have you. You, darling, are perfect the way you are.
Are Mark’s words not speaking to you? OK, maybe you’ve just had your heart broken before. The feelings of betrayal, dishonesty, sadness and pain can take a toll on a girl. But it is the way that you overcome these obstacles of love that defines you. Instead of sitting at home, crying over a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, pull yourself together, and get out to have fun. Be the bright and beautiful girl that you are and show those heartbreakers what they’re missing.
If you’ve read this far and still cannot relate, you are probably a girl that is in a Tumblr-perfect, power-couple relationship. It’s OK, though; I admire that… And your oversized teddy bear, dozen red roses, heart shaped chocolate box, and beyond perfect dinner date that will take place promptly at 7 p.m. on February 14.
However, if you’re very much single like me, get ready to party hard with your fellow singles. Go out and have a good time, or stay in and w(h)ine it out with your girls. The way you spend your night is solely up to you.
In the Single Girl’s Club, it is a no judgment zone. And as confident, beautiful, strong and smart singles, we can own V-Day.
