The first few days of college are packed with meeting so many people that you end up forgetting almost right away. I remember looking around and thinking about how some of these people would end up becoming my best friends. I didn’t know it at the time, but we were just days away from meeting each other.
I remember going up to the front of the class and introducing myself to both of you, hoping that we could potentially become friends. Once I found out both of you were in my major, I was astounded. Of course I made sure to give you both my number so that we could go get dinner one night or do homework together. We ended up hanging out more and more. We even went to a few block parties together. These are some of the memories I will never forget.
Even though I’ve always been a pretty outgoing person, I've also been an anxious one. When I started to go to block before the football games each weekend, I knew I had you girls by my side and this helped with any anxiousness I felt. Even if I made our whole friend group wake up super early for noon games, we all started to agree that we wanted to be some of the first people at block. One of the best things about you girls and our friendship is that we have fun doing anything together.
One of the most challenging parts about freshman year had to have been the math class that we all took together. There were definitely some tears shed and a ton of laughter that came along with the class, and both of these ended up bringing us closer together. I am always the person who likes to study in bigger groups, and both of you made a huge effort to come study with me before our exams. This made the class a lot more enjoyable than I originally thought it would be.
Honestly, I didn’t really think that I was going to get homesick while I was away from home, but there would be some nights that I was just upset about random things or about how I missed my brother and sister. I would always feel a sense of comfort from you girls, though. Even after I joined my sorority, our friendships still grew everyday. I love walking to class together and talking about how much sleep we didn’t get the night before or about how nervous we are for the quiz we're about to take. College definitely hasn’t been the easiest for me and I’ve definitely missed being home. Thankfully, you guys have become my home away from home.
I want to thank you for making my freshman year one of the best years I’ve had in a long time. I didn’t have the best time in high school and this has pressured me to try and make these next four years at college even better. Both of you girls push me to become a better woman, a better friend, and a better future teacher. There’s never a doubt in my mind that I will always have people who care about me and who will join me on a doughnut run at 2 a.m.
