To the Friends I Made In the First Semester of College

Dear friends,

Hello! It's me Ferrin! Ya know that one girl with the really curly hair that laughs a little too loud and cares about her eyebrows a little to much? Yeah that girl. Anyway, I just wanted to take this time to say how thankful I am for y'all! You guys still choose to hang out with me, even through my semi-adequate jokes, my collection of $5 shirts from the mens section of Walmart, and incredibly loud and thunderous laugh for an ENTIRE SEMESTER. So thanks for that:)

Also, thanks for still inviting me to things even though the chances that I will show up late because I spent a little too much time working on my eyebrows, or because I accidentally fell asleep and decided to take a 4-hour nap may impede my chances of actually going to said thing. Just remember it's the thoughts that counts and I'm truly thankful that you even considered me as an option for something as cool as that thing that I accidentally slept through. You guys are true homies for that and I owe you big time.

But most importantly, thank you for challenging me this semester. Walking into college, I didn't know exactly what I wanted, and I was sure that the only things that I was really good at, were my eyebrows and the occasional joke or two. But in these past 4 months, y'all have forced me to grow and learn more about myself than I ever thought was possible in such a short amount of time. I feel like I've grown so much in these past few months and have expanded my horizons in some ways, and that's all thanks yo y'all! So thanks for that too.

So friends, thank you for sharing your memories and your lessons with me in these past few months. I don't think I've laughed this loud or smiled this hard in a long time, but I'm so glad I got to share both of those things with y'all this past semester and in the semesters to come. I know the memories we've made on Edge Field, in McCrary, around a table in Memo, in the library for an absurd amount of time, or even in the classroom, are things that I will cherish for forever and ever.

Friends, I don't know where life will be taking us in these next few years, but I do know that God has got a lot in store for each and every one of us. And if that means that we have to drift apart, then so be it. But just know that I'm always cheering for ya pal. You were made to change the world and there's no doubt about it. I just feel blessed and honored to have earned a little spot in your life story along the way.

Anyway, thanks again for everything and love ya much!

Ferrin Gillespie

P.S. If they ever decide to make a film documenting your whole life story and you decide to include me in it, can you just make sure the person that's cast is Beyoncé or Zendaya or someone along those lines? I just want to make sure that they're capable of capturing just how fabulous I am is all. Think about it!

Ok bye forreal now k love you bye!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
