To The Ex Who Didn't Change Me

My self betterment is NOT your accomplishment.

To The Ex Who Didn't Change Me
Odyssey

I bet you've read some articles out there where you're given the credit for making your ex a "better person" or where you're the main reason that they're "changed forever". Well, I can guarantee you that you didn't do any of these things for me.

Overtime, I have changed and I'm definitely not the same person you dated a few years back and while it would just be easier to just say it was because of you, it wasn't. What I learned without you in my life shaped me into who I am now. I began to focus on people that really mattered, made new friends, threw myself into new hobbies and things that made me happy, and found my purpose in life.

I couldn't have figured out what I wanted to do as a career or where to go to college with you constantly breathing down my neck telling me what I SHOULD do and what YOU think is best for me. My dreams weren't as important as yours and I started to believe that. I almost chose where I should g to college based on where you go, which would've been the DUMBEST decision I could've ALMOST made but thank God I relied on my gut instinct and decided to go where I wanted to go and follow the dreams I've always wanted to follow. Me staying true to myself ultimately brought us to the end of our relationship but with you still around, I would've never figured out that I want to go into some sort of health profession because that was "your" thing, not mine.

Your "holier than thou" mindset made me feel absolutely terrible about myself and I always felt beneath you. My word was never as "important" as yours and my opinions and beliefs were always wrong in your eyes. That didn't make me a better person but now I can spot your kind from miles away. I got to deal with a misogynist first hand! How fun is that??

I got to be the girlfriend that your parents didn't like because I was independent and didn't want to grow up to be the typical, "homemaker" wife, but that didn't stop me from being me. No lie, I got such a kick out of your parents hating me because if they didn't, I knew something was terribly wrong. All in all, I'm still as independent minded as I was before I met you.

Now that you're not in my life anymore, I'd like to thank you for nothing. I'd like to thank myself for realizing how toxic you were and for moving on. I don't wish any harm to you and only hope you succeed in life, but you will NEVER receive the credit for well...me. The only person I will EVER thank for changing me, is myself.

Forever and always,
Your "selfish" ex

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
