Younger Friend, Best Friend

Age doesn't determine maturity, experiences do.

Younger Friend, Best Friend

“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” –Mark Twain

One of my best friends is not close to me in age. But, this never seems to be a problem. Sure, we may be in different stages in our lives sometimes, but that just means that we both have an outside perspective on what's going on. Age doesn't determine maturity. Experiences determine maturity, and everyone goes through different things.

Now I have been on both sides of the spectrum. I've had friends 2-3 years older than me, and I've had friends 2-3 years younger than me. Some of my fondest memories have been with people who are not my age. This has allowed me to grow as a person in many ways. I've learned and I've taught. Plus, one of the greatest feelings is making an impact on people. Having a younger friend definitely allows this to be something that is possible. I truly believe that I've been able to take the experiences I've lived, and help my best friend flourish in any and every way possible for her. Being a role model for someone is pretty freakin' cool, no matter what anyone says. And, when you're older, you get to say things such as "when I was your age," and that's funny as hell.

Being the older friend for sure has it's blessings and it's curses. Since you're older it's assumed you'll be the chauffeur. You have to pick them up in order to get them to do anything. But, that being said, since you're the driver you have control. You get to choose where you eat or hang out, and when you get there. So, I guess that part isn't so bad.

Another reason having a younger friend is cool is because it's simply a friend. Friendship is so important and essential to our well-being. If you can find a friend that you have a good relationship with, who cares about the age difference?

**To my best friend: I am grateful every single day to have such an amazing best friend who doubles as my little "sister." Thank you for keeping me sane, and helping me when I struggle. Thank you for sending me memes all the time, especially when I've had a bad day. Thank you for the countless laughs and memories, they are some that will last me a lifetime.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
