My life was forever changed when you walked into it. In so many ways you have shown me what family is all about. Because of you, I know that the word family isn’t always defined by blood relation, it’s defined by the people who care about you the most, the ones you surround yourself by and who you love equally as much as your one of your own. I'm so lucky I got to grow up having you as a brother. My childhood would have been so boring without you in it.
Even though I didn't like sharing anything with you, you somehow managed to deal with me on a daily basis. I know I was tough to get along with but you still somehow accepted me into your life and I am forever grateful for that. I don't think you can understand how much you mean to me. You are one of the very few people that I look up to. Looking back on our childhood together being your "step" sister has always been one of the coolest things about me. You don't know how proud I am of you. When someone asks me who I am and I tell them that you’re my brother, I can see the light come into their eyes because they know what a wonderful person you are, and thankfully I get some of the perks of that. Although I know I could never live up to the kindness you have shown people, being like you in anyway would be the biggest blessing. I'm so lucky that you were also one of my best friends growing up.
One of the best parts of having a step sibling is that you don't have to see them every single day. This only made our relationship stronger and only made me more appreciative of your presence in my life. I want to thank you for always sticking up for me. I know at times I may not have always deserved your defense, but regardless of the situation you were always the one I could count on. I can still remember telling kids on the playground that if they weren't nice to me I would tell my big brother. You’re still always someone I can count on for anything and I can’t tell you enough how much I appreciate that. You deserve so much more recognition than I can give you but I hope you know that the day you came into my life will always be one of the greatest gifts our parents could have given me.
Love always,
Your sister
