To My Younger Siblings...

A letter to my younger siblings as I leave for another year

To My Younger Siblings...
Jk Rowling

As we are headed back off to college we are leaving our family, to learn and to become independent. If you are an only child you will miss your parents dearly. If you are not an only child and you have younger siblings, then you understand that sometimes leaving your siblings can be harder then leaving your parents.

Growing up as an older sibling, you become super protective over your younger siblings. You helped them learn to walk and talk. You taught them how to sneak cookies without being caught and they were your partner in crime (who generally took the blame, because HEY! they still have the cuteness factor). You taught them how to ride a bike, and how to deal with bullies in school. You taught them so much, but you never realize how much they taught you (other then how to calm them down, after you accidentally hurt them, so you don't get in trouble), until you leave.

This is a letter to my younger siblings as I partake in another year at school and away from them.

Dear younger siblings,

I know I am not around like I used to be and I am sorry. I am sorry I am not there to see you go off for your first day of high school. I am sorry I am not around to give you dating advice and to wipe your tears when someone breaks your heart. I am sorry for not being around to help around the house or be your loudest cheerleader at your sports games.

I want you to know that I love you so very much. I also want you to know that I am just a phone call away. Technology is an amazing thing! All you have to do is pick up a phone, tablet, laptop and you can call, Skype, or Facetime me. I can't physically be there but I promise to "be there" for you.

You tell people that you have a great older sibling, but I want you to know that I tell people I have the best younger siblings (even though, you low-key drive me crazy). I have learned so much from being your older sibling, that I cannot thank you enough. You taught me how to be patient. You taught me how to be kind and compassionate. You showed me how brave and strong I can be for myself and other people. You helped me learn how to be responsible and keep a clear head in a tough situation. You showed me how hard it is to leave your family.

I am so proud of the teenagers you have become (besides your attitudes, because sheesh it makes me want to fight you, haha). I want you to know that nothing makes me more proud in this entire world, then being your older sibling. I know the road before us is tough, but always remember that no matter what happens, I will always be right by your side.

Sincerely and with all the love in the universe,

Your older sibling

Yes, your younger siblings will drive you out of mind. Sometimes you get so mad at them that you can't even stand the sight of them. Yet, you know that you love them more than anything. You and they know that you will protect them with every bone in your body. Being away from them is hard, but the sibling bond will never waver.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
