With my freshman year coming to a close and packing my bags to go home, I have realized how long I have gone without seeing my best friends. I have gone the entire year with my best friend’s miles and miles away from me. Of course we have the occasional skype calls and the constant group messages, but it’s the never the same. Now, as I am on my way home, I cannot wait to see the ones who truly love me.
I have gone from seeing them every single day to seeing them at most three times this year. And then of course, that brings along the stress of all trying to hang out but someone’s working, someone has to see their family, etc. It gets harder and harder to all get together. But I have to say, being apart from them has made me appreciate them even more.
Being away from them is different – I have to put constant effort to call them and catch up (not bad effort) instead of just catching them before class. I’m sorry if there were ever times when I lacked this, but adjusting to college and being away is hard. But these phone calls and skype calls have become normal for us. They also helped me find my real friends at college.
My high school friends taught me the value of a friendship. They not only taught me how to treat real friends, but they taught me how to value myself as a person. Every time there was something wrong, they would remind me what I deserve and who I deserve to be with. They would tell me the truth about situations I could not handle and help me along the way. They would always help me through whatever I needed, from grade school until now, and I appreciate that so much. I always had a shoulder to cry on as they heard about the shitty guy for the 100th time. They heard me complain and complain about work, my parents and the countless amount of things I was involved in. And even though we are miles apart, they are only one phone call away to helping me out.
I appreciate everything they have done for me. And on that note, I want to say thank you. Thank you for being there for me all of these years. Thank you for being a great friend to me and listening to me whenever I needed you. As you know, I am only one phone call away as well. Here’s to more fights and more memories we can create. I will love you guys forever.
