To My Dog: I'm Sorry I Left For College

I didn’t mean to leave you for weeks or months at a time. Trust me, I didn’t want this either. The days drag on when you’re not there to greet me with kisses in the morning or run upstairs with me to bed at night. Plain and simple: I’m sorry I left for college.

I wish I could have taken you with me, but Mom and Dad said I had to leave you at home. They pay for college, so they make the rules (which means you should be mad at them, not me). Don’t worry though, you’re not missing out on much. The food here isn’t as good as what Mom makes, so I wouldn’t want to sneakily feed it to you anyway. I promise I’ll share my dinner with you the next time I’m home.

I know you always forgive me for saying “goodbye” to you whenever I have to go back to school, but I can never forgive myself. Seeing you follow me to the door as you watch me leave breaks my heart more than you know. Our long distance relationship isn’t ideal, especially since Mom and Dad sometimes don’t know how to use FaceTime properly, but know that they do send me pictures and videos of you when I’m missing you most.

Sometimes it makes me really upset when I see other people walking their dogs around campus because I think about how I used to walk you everyday when I was home. Just know that these pups will never be as cute as you, you know, since I tell you all the time how you’re the cutest.

I really do hope that Mom, Dad, and Brother are treating you well and feeding you lots of treats. I know that it doesn’t compensate for me not being around, but when this whole “college” thing is over with, we’ll be back to cuddling everyday.

I’ll make sure the family reads you this letter. Until then, don’t try to miss me too much.

Love always,

Your favorite person in the family who never wanted to leave you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
