Dear My Child,

I have hopes and dreams for you to become great and strong just like your dad and I. I have some concerns for this term for our new president that has come into office this year and I wanted to express them to you as a concerned parent of yours.

First, I want to let you know if you are gay or lesbian or even bisexual that I, as your mother, will not judge you. I, myself, am bisexual and I have been judged for it my whole life and I know times are different from when I grew up and when you are growing up, but there will always be people who are going to judge you and call you names and treat you cruelly. One thing, my child, is I will teach you to be yourself no matter what people think. Don’t try and please everyone around you because in the end you will be so miserable and you won’t be able to please everyone. Stay true to yourself and the only person you need to make happy is you.

Secondly, if you are a girl I want you to know that you are in control of your own body. Do not let anyone else tell you what you need to do with your body as a female. If you end up pregnant as a young mother don’t feel any obligation to not ask for help from family and friends. Do not be afraid to be a single mom either. If the baby’s father doesn’t want to be in your child's life, that’s fine. You CAN do it by yourself. It won’t be easy but you can do it. If you have a man talking to you in a way that makes you uncomfortable then speak up. Do not be afraid to say something to either to me or your father if someone is making you feel uncomfortable. I do not wish this upon you or anyone, but if it were to happen if you get assaulted please come to someone. I have been assaulted before and I wish I would have said something to someone right away, but I didn’t and I hope you do not experience that at all.

Third, if someone in your class is of a different religion or race do not treat them any different than you would your other friends. If you see someone getting harassed or bullied say something to a teacher or someone of higher authority. If you decide to bully someone, know that it is not OK and I will not be very happy with you and there will be consequences for those actions. You are to respect everyone no matter what race, religion, gender, or any disability whatsoever.

Lastly, if you are very sad and you become depressed it’s OK, just come and talk to someone about how you are feeling. One of my biggest fears for you, my child, is that I’m going to lose you. I do not want you to ever resort to a razor or any other form of self-harm because you have no one to talk to. Even if it’s a difficult subject and we may not want to hear it, your father and I will always be there for you whenever you need it. Please do not be afraid to talk to us. We will always love you to the moon and back.

Love,

Your Mother

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
