Watching you grow up, I always knew you had a bright future ahead of you. You were the one we asked for help when it came to handling problems with technology, the one who loved to drive everyone around, but also, you are the baby of the family. Time certainly does fly by. I can’t believe the youngest member of the family is leaving for college so soon. It seems like just yesterday you were starting high school and I was showing you around. Now, you are heading into one of the most memorable times of your life.
Making the transition from high school to college can be scary. It’s the first time you’re away from home, nobody will be there to tell you what to do, and you are away from your bubble you created these past 18 years.
I want you to know that it’s okay to feel lost, scared, and even a little nervous as you experience this new adventure. However, you shouldn’t let that stop you from getting out of your shell and trying new things.
By trying new things, you find out a lot about yourself and what you are truly interested in and passionate about. During these next four years, I hope you find things that inspire you every day.
I want you to know that college life is not perfect. There are going to be some times when you make a few mistakes, but that is OK. You learn from those mistakes. There are also going to be times when you have to make tough decisions on your own. I want to remind you that you should trust yourself enough to make the decision you know is right for you.
I want you to know that whenever you have a question or simply just want to talk, I’m always a phone call away. This transition is going to be hard on all of us because day by day, we’ve only gotten closer. It’s going to be the first time you are so far away from all of us back at home, but we know you are going out there to make your mark in the world. It’s a milestone you should be eager to accomplish and it is a time in your life where you are going to look back when you are older and remember all the memories you have made.
I am looking forward to campus breaks because I will be able to hear all your stories and adventures.
I am looking forward to hearing all about your accomplishments and achievements these next four years because I know you are going to do big things in the future. It’s going to be a wonderful experience, and I cannot wait to see what you make of it.
Good luck in college, make it the best four years of your life. I look forward to hearing all about it.
Love,
Your older sister
