Any sorority woman can probably recall the day she received the best present she's ever opened: her big sister. Honestly, getting a big is one of the most exciting parts of joining a sorority. If I could re-live one day from my freshman year, (besides bid day, of course), it would be the night I received my big. She’s been everything I wanted in a big and more. This past year has been so much better than I thought it would be, and that’s because of her. However, it’s time for us to take another step together… It’s time to add another little one to our perfect family.
Dear my wonderful, beautiful, perfect Big,
Let me start by saying how much you mean to me. From the moment we first met, we instantly clicked. We talked for hours over a mediocre dining hall dinner about what nail salons are good in our little college town, what classes we like and don’t like, and what socials and parties we wanted to attend in the coming weeks. You’ve always understood when I want to cuddle up alone with Netflix and when I need a good laugh. You’ve always supported me, even when no one else has. You’ve given me the encouragement to power through the most stressful days. You’ve made me smile when I felt like crying. You’re the perfect big. But now it’s time to face a fact that I know terrifies you. It’s my turn.
It’s my turn to claim a little of my very own. It’s my turn to love, encourage, support, and corrupt a new member who is lucky enough to call me her big (kidding). I know this terrifies you (mostly because you change the subject every time I bring it up), but just know that no one, not even my own little, will ever replace you.
You’ve been the best big I could have ever asked for, and that is why I know you’ll be just as great at being a grand-big. Your big (my grand-big) has shown me nothing but love since day one. In fact, I probably wouldn’t have gotten so close with you had it not been for her. You have an amazing model of what a grand-big should be, and I know you will fill her shoes.
I’m excited for my future little, and I know you are too. It’ll be different not being the baby of the family anymore, but I’m ready. I’m ready to have a new link in the family chain. I’m ready to love her, support her, and spoil her to death. Thank you, big, for being the best example to me of what a big should be. I won’t let you down.
Love always,
Your little
